Many students ask me this question regarding good courses other than Engineering. I tell them that they have good number of choices to choose from. So, I’ve decided to write a brief blog post about some courses that can be done after 12th science, other than Engineering. Note that this article is for students who have takes mathematics group.
Good courses after 12th Science, other than Engineering
B Sc
Don’t underestimate this course. A B Sc Degree followed by an M Sc Degree from a good college can be much beneficial to you and help build a promising career. The best part about this course is that there is immense scope in research field. Some of the well known and promising B Sc disciplines are-
- B.Sc. Agriculture
- B.Sc. Horticulture
- B.Sc. Forestry
- B.Sc. IT
- B.Sc. Computer Science
- B.Sc. Chemistry
- B.Sc. Mathematics
- B.Sc. Physics
- B.Sc. Hotel Management
- B.Sc. Nautical Science
- B.Sc. Electronics

BBA
BBA is like a course just below the level of MBA. It stands for Bachelor of Business Administration. BBA followed by MBA is a good prospect for mathematics group students also. Doing just BBA may also help you land a job. It is a 3 years long Bachelor’s Degree course.
BBA+MBA Integrated course
It is a 5 years long integrated course. On completing the course, the Graduate will possess dual degrees- BBA and MBA. Thus, pursuing this course, students won’t have to separately apply for an MBA Degree!
BMS (Bachelor of Management Studies)
BMS is a very good management course. 12th Science stream students are eligible to pursue this course. The course duration is 3 years. BMS and BBA both are management courses. But BMS course focuses more in traditional management education and elements of Commerce also.
BHM (Bachelor of Hotel Management)
It is a 4 years long Undergraduate program. It is a highly job oriented course. This course prepares students to take on roles and jobs in the Hotel and Travel Industry. Diploma and certificate version programs of this course are also available. But pursuing the Bachelor’s Degree course from a recognized Institute will be the best step. Check out hotel management and travel & tourism courses.
Law courses
Other than engineering, science and management, 12th Science stream students are also eligible to pursue law education (the integrated format). Integrated law courses can be pursued right after 12th. Some examples of integrated law courses are-
- B.Sc. + LL.B.
- B.Com. + LL.B.
- B.Com. + LL.B.
- BBA + LL.B.
Fashion and Design related courses
When it comes to Fashion and Design related courses, degree, diploma and certification programs are available. Some well known programs are-

- Bachelor of Design (Accessory)
- Bachelor of Design (Leather)

Commercial Pilot Training
12th Science (Mathematics group) students may go for CPL training right after 12th. CPL training is expensive. Students must also pass Pilot Aptitude test and other medical examinations to be considered eligible to undergo training.
Education and Teaching related courses
After doing this type of course, one may take on the job of a teacher/instructor. Some well known education related courses are-
- B.El.Ed. (Bachelor of Elementary Education, 4 years long course)
- Diploma in Elementary Education
- B.P.Ed. (Bachelor of Physical Education)
- Primary Teachers Training course (can follow it up with B.Ed.)
- Diploma in Yoga Education
B Pharmacy
Though this course has a lot to do with biology and aspects related to medicine, it can be chosen by mathematics group students also. B Pharmacy followed by M Pharmacy is a good option for them.
Marine Field courses
This field is not just limited to marine Engineering. There are other courses also, related to this field. Some of them are diploma courses. These courses can be pursued to get a merchant navy job.

You may pursue certification and Diploma programs related to ethical hacking. These programs can be pursued in part time mode. Usually there’s no particular eligibility criteria associated with these programs.
I like to do exercises and martial arts and also want to spread it’s awareness in everyone .

Hi sir, I’ve just completed with my HSC boasrd examinations and i am expecting around 90% and above. sir, I am currently a science student doing PCMB and I had opted for I.T. as an optional subject in my college, as I had it in 9th and 10th grade in school too. Sir i am going to attempt NEET(medical) as well as MHT-CET(engineering) entrance, but im not very much interested in them. I have interests in mathematics and IT. I love these subjects. If you could help me out with courses involving both majorly MATHS and IT and the courses which have a pay higher than 40k possibly cz my thinking is that even after studying so much after 12th, if im getting a pay of 20-30k it won’t be worth it.
B.Sc. IT, BCA, B.Tech. IT etc are good courses for you.

Well you cannot but if you appear for icar (Indian Council of agricultural research) exam, you’ll find a section of mathematics instead of biology which will direct you to departments of agricultural engineering or agricultural statistics.

Very difficult to predict. It depends on numerous factors such as – institute from which you complete the course, status of your employer, your aptitude, job location etc. On an average, it could be 4-6 Lakh INR per year.

I’m not knowledgeable about hotel management colleges. Talking about other fields, if you are interested in management, you may try courses like BBA, BMS etc.

B.Sc. IT will be better for you. Salary could be anywhere between 10-20k rupees per month.

Engineering would be better. But B Pharmacy, if pursued from a good institute, will be of use to you.

Architecture requires good mathematical skills and understanding of the topic. Mugging up won’t help. In any field, if you understand the concepts, learning things will become much more simple! Anyway, you may try management courses or law education.

It is a decent course. Placement condition depends in the institute. Check whether the institute you are interested in has campus placements or not.

Atharva, you may go for undergraduate level programs like BA in Hospitality and Travel Management, BA in Travel and Tourism Management, Bachelor of Travel Management, B.Sc. in Travel and Tourism Management, B.Sc. in Hospitality and Travel Management etc. You may follow UG course with PG course of MBA.

Kshitij, yes, BCA has decent scope. Ensure that you pursue that course from a good institute. Other courses available in front of you include- B.Sc., B Pharmacy, Pharm D, Diploma in Engineering programs, Journalism and Mass Communication, CA course, Management education, Law courses etc.

Kavi, both are good branches. You should select a course based on the quality of the institute in which you think you will get admission. If it is for CSE that you get admission in a reputed college, go for it, otherwise go for IT, if it leads you to a reputed college.

Aarthi, there are no fixed courses for that. You may indulge in Social works after any graduation course. Still, some courses like Bachelor of Social Works, Environmental Science, Nursing, Teacher’s Training courses etc will help you indulge in social activities easily.

Rohan, you may go for BCA and follow it up with MBA. If you are interested in Hotel management field, you may do MBA specializing in Hotel and Hospitality management.

Hello Sir, I gave 12th science with PCM and electronics in state board 2016, and i have analysed that I am getting around 48-50%. And I don’t think I will be able to secure any good mks in CET. I am interested in engg but I don’t think that any decent college will take me with donations also… I am good with computer hardwares and softwares. I was also thinking of Bsc chemistry, but my tution teacher said that she was literally crying in the 1st year for it is difficult at start. My friends suggested me to try for BMS. My mom says to go for HM as im little bit interested in cooking. And my aptitude is not that great. Can you suggest me good COLLEGES in MUMBAI or around vikhroli to be more precise?

Jacob, BHM is a good course. And if you are genuinely interested in that field, you may build a decent career in it. BMS is a decent course. But you must follow it up with advanced courses, in order to climb up the career ladder.

Sravanthi, pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree course will be better. If you are not interested in Engineering, you may go for B.Sc. courses, law education, management courses, teacher training course etc.

Akhil, journalism is a course that will suit you. Flight steward is another good career. Commercial Pilot training could also be of help to you. If you want to venture into merchant navy sector, you may pursue maritime courses. All these jobs involve traveling and adventure.
Hello Sir, I have just given 12th board exams with PCM and given JEE exams for Both B Arch and B Tech but my B Tech marks are too low, and I dont know much about B Arch, so please can you suggest that architecture is good or not for a better job and I do some other course like mechanical or Computer Science.
Vivek, it is a decent field. If you have skills, aptitude and a general interest towards architecture, you may build a decent career in that area.

I just finished tenth grade. I have no idea what career to take up. I am interested in environment conservation and wildlife. My father says that I can do that anytime later as well. So he doesn’t think it’s a great choice. Apart from that architecture interests me. As far as medicine is concerned I don’t know which field I am interested in. Aishwarya, Environmental Engineering and B.Sc.Forestry courses matches the first set of interests that you mentioned. If you want to become an Architect, you’ll have to go for B.Arch. course. Architecture would be a good choice. You may select science stream with Mathematics subject. You’ll have to appear for NATA test to gain admission in good Architecture institutes.

Anjana, not sure about the JEE prospects. After Civil Engineering, you will have access to lots of Government as well as private sector jobs. NHAI, PWD, Municipal Corporations, Government Housing schemes etc are places where you may find a job. Property developers, infrastructure developers, construction consultancies etc are places where you may find a job, in the private sector.

Aahil, the problem is that the job market is very saturated. So many graduates are passing out of colleges each year (in case of most other courses too!). One good way to tackle this problem is by pursuing the course from a reputed institute, having good placement record. If you have skills and complete the course from a good quality institute, you will be able to find a decent job.

If you really want to get admission in a good college and you are sure about performing well the next time, then you may consider taking a drop and preparing for the exam. But if you are able to get admission for your preferred program in a decent college, I suggest you to go ahead with the graduation program and perform well in it!

If becoming a commercial pilot is your dream, you better go for it. Because, that is a good field. If you acquire good skills in that field, you will be in much demand! 🙂
Another way to become pilot is to join Indian Armed forces’ Air Force wing and become a flying officer.
