BBA: Basic Details

BBA stands for Bachelor of Business Administration. It is a Bachelor’s Degree course that focuses on management and administration studies. It is an undergraduate-level course.

BBA is a general management course. Generally, the course doesn’t focus on any specific discipline or sub-field within the management field. It covers all the basic elements of management education. That’s why it is labelled as a general management course.

This general management course covers basic topics like HR management, organizational behaviour, business communication, management skills, office/organization administration, finance management, business laws, business ethics, accounting, planning, international business, retail management, supply chain management, marketing and operations management.

Exceptions do exist, though! Many institutes are known to offer BBA Honours programs. The honours program can be considered to be a ‘specialization’ course. The honours course is designed in such a way that apart from covering basic management subjects, it focuses exclusively on a particular discipline (within the field of management).

Examples of such ‘specialization’ BBA courses include BBA in Airport Management, BBA in Finance Management, BBA in Hotel Management, BBA in Retail Management etc. At the end of the day, the nature of the course depends upon the program designed and offered by the institute.

Most institutes offer general BBA courses. Some institutes are known to offer BBA Honours courses. While securing admission, students are advised to pay attention to the course’s nature.

In short, based on the course content, BBA programs available in India can be classified into two main types – BBA (General) program and BBA (Specialization) program. As mentioned, the general BBA program deals with core management subjects. On the other hand, the specialization program deals with core management and domain-specific subjects.

Which type of course should I choose, you may ask. The answer to this question depends upon your career goals and aim. Do you want to go for an MBA after completing BBA? If yes, a general BBA program will be of help to you!

Do you have a family business and want to jump right into the action after completing your Bachelor’s Degree education? If yes, you may go for a relevant specialization program (such as BBA in Family Business).

In short, the type of BBA program you must select depends upon your career goals and aim. Let us talk about the scope of this program now. You may ask if I will get a good job after completing this course.
