This article will be of help to students and aspirants who want to become an air hostess or flight steward. If you are an aspirant, you must have heard about institutes and training centres offering air hostess training programs to students. How useful are these courses? Is it necessary to pursue such a course or training to be considered eligible to become an air hostess? You will find answers to these questions in the following paragraphs.

10+2 is technically the minimum qualification required
It is not necessary to pursue an air hostess or flight steward training course to be considered eligible to apply for this job! Actually, being 10+2 passed (any stream) is the minimum educational qualification required.

How to apply?
After completing 12th standard schooling or equivalent from a recognized board, you are technically eligible to start applying for air hostess jobs! You may watch out for recruitment drives held by airlines (on newspapers, websites, TV etc) and apply for the job.
Candidates will be selected and shortlisted through processes and test like written test, aptitude test and interview. Selected candidates will then be trained by the recruiting airline company!
Thus, it is evident that technically no ‘air hostess training’ is required in order to apply for this job. But there’s a catch though. Read on to know more –
Airlines prefer graduates (from relevant discipline/trade)
Even though 10+2 is the minimum qualification required to be considered eligible, airlines these days prefer Degree or Diploma holders possessing relevant certificate or degree!
During recruitment process, airlines do give preference to candidates possessing valid Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in relevant disciplines like Aviation, Hospitality Management, Travel and Tourism Management, Aviation Management etc.
So, if you want to improve your chances, it would be better to successfully complete a relevant Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma course! Sure, it will take an additional 2 to 3 years to complete. But it’ll boost your chances in the selection process!
After completing a relevant Degree or Diploma program, you may apply for the job of an air hostess. If you perform well in selection tests, you will be selected by the recruiter and given training!

Are air hostess training institutes and programs useless?
Answer depends upon the quality of the institute. Not all the institutes are good. But some of them are good.
Pursuing such programs from a reputed institute will help you gain key air hostess and cabin crew skills. This knowledge, to some extent, will come handy during the selection process.
Some training institutes are also known to have good placement record. Placement assistance is a good thing. If you are keen on getting placed, thereby avoiding the cut throat competition a bit, you may join one such institute and hope for the best!

So, technically, there’s no need to compulsorily pursue such training courses! A relevant Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma (along with 10+2 pass requirement) will be enough to help you get a job (assuming that you pass the selection test).
