Google has shown its interest in buying WhatsApp recently. WhatsApp is a mobile application used for instant messaging. WhatsApp is available for various mobile platforms like Android phones, Symbian, Windows phone, Blackberry and the iOs (Apple iPhone). WhatsApp allows its users to send text messages, videos and picture messages to other WhatsApp users. The popularity of WhatsApp and its technology is what Google is interested in.

Earlier, it was speculated that Facebook would buy WhatsApp. But no talks occurred regarding this deal. Facebook had earlier bought photo sharing app- Instagram for approximately 1 Billion dollars. WhatsApp is being used by people of more than 100 countries. More than 700 mobile networks, globally use it. In India, it is the most popular Instant Messaging app used. It is especially popular among teenagers, college students and youngsters. It’s popularity is due to its simple and efficient design, speed in sending messages etc. On installation, WhatsApp is free for a year. Then, one has to pay an annual subscription charge of 55Rupees.

If Google buys WhatsApp, it will not only get the technology used by WhatsApp, but it will also have access to millions of users. WhatApp can provide Google with a new medium of advertising.
