In this article, we will have an in-depth analysis of M.E./M.Tech. Electrical Engineering course. It is a PG course and is a general one, covering a wide range of disciplines within the branch of Electrical Engineering. Here, I will provide you information such as- basic course details, important subjects present, course duration, eligibility criteria, scope and job opportunities after graduation.
As I mentioned before, this M.E./M.Tech. program deals with a number of disciplines within the branch of Electrical Engineering. It is like a general PG course. So, Electrical Engineering graduates who are not interested in pursuing a PG course that focuses on a particular discipline may choose this course. This one deals with more than one discipline!
M.E./M.Tech. Electrical Engineering: Basic course details
It is a 2 years long Post Graduate Degree program. The 2 years’ duration is divided into 4 semesters, with each semester lasting a period of 6 months. During the first two semesters, students will have to face different sets of theoretical subjects and practical lab sessions associated with those subjects. In case of the last two semesters, along with few theoretical subjects, students will also have to take care of project work and thesis.
M.E./M.Tech. Electrical Engineering program deals with topics such as Control Systems, Circuits and Micro controllers, VLSI Technology and Design, Power Engineering, Electronics, Power Systems, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Electrical Systems etc in a much more detailed manner than the B.E./B.Tech. Electrical Engineering program.
To get a better idea about the course structure and nature, let us take a look at some of the important subjects present in the program-
M.E./M.Tech. Electrical Engineering: Important subjects present
Please note that only the important subjects present in the program has been mentioned below. This has been done so that readers may get a basic idea about the course structure.
- Power Systems
- Control Systems
- Power Electronics
- Electrical Machines
- Telecommunications and Digital Signal
- Power System Protection
- Embedded System Design
- Dynamic Systems
- Power Utilization and Management
- Energy Management
Those were some important subjects present in M.E./M.Tech. Electrical Engineering program. Some of the subjects mentioned above are elective ones. The choice of elective subjects defines a student’s area of specialization to an extent. Apart from the theoretical subjects listed above, lab sessions associated with those subjects also form a part of the program. In the final year, thesis and project work will take up a prominent place.
Eligibility Criteria
Since this is a PG course, Graduation Degree in B.E./B.Tech. Degree in any one of Engineering branches such as Electrical/Electrical and Electronics/Power Engineering or other such related branches is required.
In case of some Institutes, to be considered eligible to take part in admission process, the Graduate must also have taken part in National level entrance exam named GATE examination. You may also check – Engineering entrance exams in India.
Scope, Salary and Job opportunities
