Have you completed Engineering education? Are you interested in pursuing a good PG Certificate course after B.E. or B.Tech.? If yes, this article will be of help to you. Here, I’ve listed down some of the best certificate courses to do after Engineering.

Engineering is a very popular choice among Indian students. It is not uncommon to see Science stream students going after programs like B.E. and B.Tech.   B.E. stands for Bachelor of Engineering. B.Tech. stands for Bachelor of Technology. Both these programs are 4 years long (each).   Here’s a list of engineering courses after 12th. Check out this guide for best Engineering branches in India.   As I mentioned before, B.E. and B.Tech. are very popular among 12th Science stream students. A large number of students enroll for these programs each year.   As a result, each year, thousands of Engineering graduates are created in India! This has resulted in over-saturation of the job market! For example, vacancy is 100 and engineering graduates applying for the post is 10,000!   Such is the situation of engineers in India right now! Due to this fact, it is not uncommon to see jobless engineering graduates in India. Many of them settle for non-relevant and low-paying jobs. Others remain unemployed. Many of the even go for higher studies.   By pursuing PG courses, Engineering graduates stand a chance to boost their skills and career prospects. An advanced Degree can help them get better jobs, better salary and overall better career prospects!   Here are some of the most popular PG courses among Engineering graduates –

  • M.E. or M.Tech.
  • M.S. or M.Sc.
  • MBA
  • PGDM
  • PG Diploma (Engineering) programs
  • PG Certificate (Engineering) programs

M.E. or M.Tech. and MBA are the most popular choice among B.E. or B.Tech. graduates. Both these programs are 2 years long (each).   What about a short term PG course, you may ask. If you are interested in job oriented short term courses after engineering, you may rely on PG Certificate courses.   Broadly speaking, there are numerous PG Certificate (Engineering) programs out there. I’ve picked a handful of them and listed them here. Here’s the list of courses –

Best PG Certificate Courses after Engineering (B.E. or B.Tech.)

1 IoT

IoT stands for Internet of Things. In simple terms, it is a network of physical devices, vehicles, appliances and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators and connectivity. It enables these devices to connect with each other and exchange data.   For example, imagine that your refrigerator is connected to your smartphone over a network. As the refrigerator is about to run out of milk, it sends a notification about the depleted inventory to your smartphone. Isn’t it very smart and convenient? This is how IoT works!   This sector is growing at a rapid pace. It has got immense scope and potential.

2 VLSI Design

VLSI stands for Very Large Scale Integration. In simple terms, it is about the creation of IC (Integrated Circuit) by combining transistors or devices into a single chip.   VLSI is used to design and create IC. These IC are used in electronic devices, computers and complex machinery. VLSI deals with aspects such as semiconductors, RAM, ROM, CPU, Circuit Design etc.   This program is ideal for electrical engineers, EC engineers and Telecommunication engineers.

3 Embedded System Design

In simple terms, it is a computer system with a dedicated function within a larger mechanical or electrical system. It is embedded as part of a complete device. Examples of embedded systems are – digital watch, MP3 player, industrial controllers etc.   The main task of an embedded system designer is to optimize them, reduce its size and cost. It deals with aspects such as micro-controllers, networking and sensors.   This program is ideal for Electrical, EC, Telecommunication and Networking engineers.

4 Automobile Mechanics

This program is ideal for Mechanical engineers and automobile engineers. This course focuses on high performance automobile mechanics.

5 Materials Management

Materials management deals with aspects such as – planning, sourcing, purchasing, moving, storing and controlling materials in an optimum manner.   Professionals who are involved in areas such as production, manufacturing, supply chain and quality control may pursue this course to boost their career prospects!

6 Industrial Automation

Mechanical Engineers, IC Engineers and Production Engineers will benefit hugely from this course. The main aim of industrial automation is to optimize and automate processes taking place in a plant/industry.   Manufacturing, maintenance, storage – all these aspects can be automated, thanks to industrial automation.

7 Programming

Computer Science Engineers, IT Engineers and EC Engineers will benefit hugely from programming courses. These programs will help them enter sectors such as software design, development, IoT and software testing. Here’s an example of one such course – Certificate in Python programming.

8 Substation Design

This program is ideal for electrical engineers. This programs deals with aspects such as – transformers, arresters, power lines, structure design, breakers etc.

9 Advanced Surveying

This program is ideal for Civil Engineers. While studying Civil Engineering, you are taught basic surveying practices and equipment. This PG program deals with surveying topic in detail! The program covers advanced surveying practices and equipment!

10 Engineering Management

The main aim of this program is to instill management skills in engineering graduates! Employers value candidates who have engineering knowledge and management skills.

Duration

Course duration may vary from one institute to another. Usually, these PG Certificate programs could be anywhere between 6-12 months long.

Eligibility

Candidate must have passed relevant Engineering program (B.E. or B.Tech.) from a recognized University/College/Institute.
