Diploma in Dramatic Arts: Course details, eligibility & scope

In this article, I will be covering in detail the course named Diploma in Dramatic Arts. This course is offered by the National School of Drama, New Delhi. In this article, I will cover details such as basic course details, course duration, eligibility criteria, educational qualifications, age limit, reservation quota and selection process.

 

What is Diploma Course in Dramatic Arts all about?

It is a 3 years long full time residential program offered by National School of Drama, New Delhi. The main aim of this course is to train students and enable to become professionals in areas related to arts like acting, directing, theatre etc.

 

Course duration

Course duration is of 3 years. It is a full time residential program.

Educational Qualifications

There are some basic qualification criteria that interested candidates must satisfy, before applying for this course. Those criteria are-

  • Graduation in any subject from a Recognized University in India or abroad.
  • Candidate should have participated in at least 6 theatre productions.
  • Candidate should be proficient in Hindi and English.

 

Age limit

The minimum age limit is 20 years and the upper limit is 30 years. In case of SC/ST candidates, the upper age limit is relaxed 5 years. Please note that the age limits are applicable in reference to the date- 1-7-2015.

 

Reservation Quota

Total number of seats available is 26. Out of that, 4 seats are reserved for SC candidates. 2 seats are reserved for ST candidates. 7 seats are reserved for OBC candidates (who doesn’t belong to the creamy layer) as well as physically disabled candidates.

Selection Process

The selection process is a 2 stage process. The first stage consists of an audition test. The candidates who manage to clear the initial audition test are then called to attend a 5 days long workshop at the NSD. This workshop can be said to be the final selection test. Expert committee of the NSD will evaluate the candidates, their skills and talent. Based on their decision, final decisions are made.
