What is it like to become a perfusionist in India? You will find answers to these questions in the next section.

Perfusion Technology: Introduction, Details & Scope

In simple terms, perfusion is the flow of blood (and other fluids) through the circulatory system or lymphatic system to an organ or tissue. It is a very important process that takes place in our body.   Without it, blood carrying oxygen from our lungs won’t reach all the vital organs, tissues and parts of our body! Our lungs and heart play an important role in the whole process! Poor perfusion causes serious health issues!   What if a person’s lungs or heart is not functioning properly? This is when perfusion technology comes handy! In such cases, in order to maintain proper perfusion, a Heart-Lung machine is used!   Heart-Lung machine is usually used during cardiac surgery or other surgeries that require cardiopulmonary bypass to manage the patient’s physiological status.   Such surgeries are carried out by a team of skilled Doctors. The team usually consists of cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, operation theater technicians and perfusionists. The main task of a perfusionist is to configure and operate the Heart-Lung machine.   In short, a perfusionist forms an integral part of the team that carries our cardiac and other relevant surgeries. He/she plays an important role in maintaining good perfusion, while the patient is undergoing surgery. He/she is also responsible for operating other relevant life support systems.
