BBA stands for Bachelor of Business administration. It is an undergraduate level course. Students who have passed 12th standard are eligible to pursue this course. The academic program is three years long. It is a Bachelor’s Degree course.
BMS stands for Bachelor of Management Studies. Like BBA, BMS too is an undergraduate level course. Students who have passed 12th standard are eligible to pursue this course. The academic program is three years long. It is a Bachelor’s Degree course.
If we look closely, these management education programs have a lot in common! Instead of pointing out the key differences, it would be easier to jot down the similarities between these courses! Why is it so, some of you may ask. Read on to know more about it –
BBA and BMS have a lot in common!
Yes, these academic programs have the following aspects in common –
- Same course duration
- Same eligibility criteria
- Same course format
- Same academic level
- Same course content (not 100% same though!)
Why have two separate courses while they share so many aspects, some of you may ask. The main reason behind this trend is – BMS course was introduced by certain colleges and they wanted it to stand out from existing management programs such as – BBA and BBM.
Renaming a course
BMS course was born when some colleges decided to introduce a brand-new management education program. Till then, BBA was the most popular UG level management course in India. Some colleges decided to re-brand the course and thus BMS was born! In other words, BBA and BMS programs share the same content (more or less).

Instead of running after a course format, why not go for the best college? Yes, apply for both programs and choose the one that will help you get into a reputed college! For example, ABC and XYZ are two good colleges in your state. XYZ is the better college (in terms of infra, placement, faculty, rating etc). In this case, no matter which course XYZ college is offering – BBA or BMS – just select the better college!
Both programs offer the same course content (almost). So it makes sense to keep the course factor flexible and select the best college!
