Do you want to become a teacher? Are you interested in the profession of teaching? If yes, pursuing teacher training courses will be of help to you. Talking about teacher training courses, let us check out the relatively new Integrated B.Ed. program that has been rolled out in India in the recent past. In this article, you will be reading details about Integrated B.Ed. (Bachelor of Education) program. B.Sc. B.Ed. and B.A. B.Ed. are the two Integrated B.Ed. courses that you will be reading about in this article.

B.Ed. is an academic qualification that is necessary for teaching at secondary and higher secondary school levels in India. If you want to take up teaching (secondary and higher level) as a profession, you must possess this Degree.

In its traditional format, B.Ed. is a Degree course that can be pursued after completing graduation (minimum eligibility criteria). Graduates (or those holding even higher qualifications), who have successfully completed relevant graduation program, are eligible to pursue this course. Previously, B.Ed. program’s duration was 1 year. But this academic program has been revised and the duration was increased to 2 years from academic session 2015-2016 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

This means that at present, if one wants to pursue B.Ed. after graduation, it will take about 5 years to complete the whole process. For example- Completing relevant undergraduate Degree course like B.Sc. or B.A. will take 3 years. This has to be followed by B.Ed. In total, this will take 5 years (3+2) to complete.

But Integrated B.Ed. program can be pursued right after 12th. Also, the course duration is 4 years. Yes, 1 year less than the time taken in the traditional B.Ed. method.

Let us take a closer look at Integrated B.Ed. course and check out vital details about the course-

Integrated B.Ed. Course: Details

Integrated Bachelor of Education course can be said to be a Dual Degree program. At the end of the program, a student will obtain two Degrees. The two Integrated B.Ed. programs introduced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development are- B.Sc. + B.Ed. and B.A. + B.Ed.

It is evident from the above mentioned paragraph that the program is Dual Degree in nature. The Government has introduced this course to address the problem of ‘shortage of qualified teachers’ that India has been facing for a while now. With this course, the Government want to attract more and more students towards the profession of teaching. Through this course, not only does the Government wants to increase the number of teachers in India, but also to improve the quality of teacher training/education in this country.

Duration: The duration of the entire program is 4 years. Thus, it takes 1 year less than the usual duration it takes for one to complete B.Ed. in the traditional way.
