Different types of nursing colleges in India
Government nursing colleges: These colleges, as the name suggests, are owned and managed by the relevant departments of the State or Central Government. These colleges strictly follow merit-based admission processes. They even provide subsidized education to students!
Private nursing colleges: These colleges are also known as self-financing colleges. Private educational and/or charitable trusts own these colleges. Due to private ownership, these colleges charge relatively higher tuition fees.
Admission process
In order to get into a Government or reputed nursing college, one must take part in a merit-based admission process. This admission process is facilitated through relevant entrance tests. Each year, hundreds of thousands of candidates take part in these exams.
The admission process may vary from one college to another though. Some colleges are known to give direct admission to students (due to vacant seats). Some colleges have management/NRI quota seats. You can see the list of inc-approved nursing colleges on the indiannursingcouncil.org website.
