Types of nursing colleges in TN
Nursing colleges in TN can be classified on the basis of the entity that owns the institute. Based on this parameter, colleges can be broadly classified into the following three types –
- Government nursing colleges
- Private nursing colleges
- Aided nursing colleges
Let us take a closer look at each type of college. Government nursing colleges, as the name suggests, are managed and funded by the state Government. The Government handles aspects such as administration, funding, recruitment and admission process. As a result, these colleges provide subsidized education to its students. This is the main reason why students prefer Government nursing colleges over other types of institutes. Private nursing colleges, as the name suggests, are managed and funded by private charitable trusts and organizations. These colleges are also known as self financing colleges. Since private entities manage these colleges, they are known to charge relatively higher tuition fees. Aided colleges are private institutes. But unlike private colleges, they receive partial funding and support from the Government. UG level stands for undergraduate level. Diploma programs (ANM and GNM), B.Sc. Nursing, B.Sc. Nursing (PB) – these courses fall under this category. PG level stands for postgraduate level. M.Sc. Nursing, PG Diploma programs and PG Certification programs – these courses fall under this category. Doctoral Degree programs are research based programs. Merit based admission, direct admission and donation based admission – these are the three prominent ways to secure admission. If you want to secure admission into reputed colleges, you must take part in merit based admission process. For that, you must appear for relevant entrance exam. In merit based admission process, seats are allotted to candidates on the basis of merit marks scored by them in relevant entrance exam and/or board exam. Some colleges are also known to conduct direct and donation based admission process.
