MCA Admission in Gujarat 2022
Admission process may vary from one MCA college to another. Main modes of admission process include – merit based admission, direct admission and donation based admission process.
All of the government colleges and good private colleges follow merit based admission process. Under this mode of admission, seats are allotted among deserving candidates on the basis of their rank in a merit list. This merit list is prepared on the basis of candidates’ performance in relevant entrance test/selection exam and/or their performance in Bachelor’s Degree program.
Direct admission process is followed when an institute has too many vacant seats to fill up. Usually mid-table and low rated colleges are known to employ this tactic. Under this process, seats are distributed among eligible candidates on first come, first served basis.
When it comes to many private MCA colleges, certain number of seats are reserved under the management quota. These seats are allotted to eligible candidates on the basis of monetary transaction conducted between the two parties.
Fees
MCA tuition fees depends upon factors such as – type of college (government or private), scholarship status of the candidate, rating of the college etc. On an average, private MCA colleges could charge anywhere between 40-120K INR per year. Government MCA colleges are known to provide subsidized education to its students.

MCA: Basic Details
MCA stands for Master of Computer Applications. As the name suggests, it is a Master’s Degree course. In other words, this computer course falls under PG academic level. PG stands for postgraduate level.
The course duration is two years. This program has been crafted keeping the needs of computer science graduates in mind. Candidates seeking advanced knowledge in computer science may pursue this course.
Candidates who have passed relevant Bachelor’s Degree course (like BCA, B.Sc. CS, B.Sc. IT etc) are eligible to pursue this course. This program deals with the discipline of – computer applications. It is an advanced computer education course. Candidates who possess basic/degree-level computer application knowledge will benefit from this program.
What is it like to pursue this course, some of you may ask. MCA program deals with topics such as – programming, database management, algorithm, web technology, operating systems, statistics and mathematics, mobile application development, software development etc.
Some of the popular programming languages covered by the program include – Java, C++, Python, .NET etc. Apart from programming, the program also deals with database management, data modeling, mathematical structures, statistics etc.
The program also deals with elective subjects. Availability of elective subjects may vary from one college to another. In short, after completing this course, a candidate will become knowledgeable about areas such as – programming, algorithm, internet technology, database management, computer networks, OS, machine learning, software development etc.
Duration
MCA course is 2 years long. Each academic year is divided into two semesters. Each semester is six months long.
Eligibility criteria
Minimum educational qualification required to pursue this course is – completed relevant Bachelor’s Degree course (like BCA or B.Sc. CS) from a recognized college/university.
Candidate must have scored at least 50% marks in Bachelor’s Degree course. Minimum marks criteria may vary from one college to another.
