Talking about the world of professional courses, B Sc and B Com are still pursued by Indian students to a great extent. So, the flow of students from these streams to the Armed Forces is also enormous! This article is for students belonging to B Sc and B Com streams, who want to become Commissioned Officers in the Indian Army. I will discuss in this article various entry schemes meant for you fellows.
How B Sc and B Com students may join Indian Army as Commissioned Officers-
#1 Indian Military Academy Direct Entry-
The candidate must be between 19 and 24 years of age, with reference to the first day of the month, in which the training will begin. Graduation Degree from a recognized University is required. The candidate has to be unmarried. The candidate has to appear for the CDS (Combined Defence Services) exam conducted by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). After selection, training will be provided at IMA, Dehradun. The duration of training will be 18 months.
#2 Officers Training Academy SSC Non Tech entry
This is an SSC (Short Service Commission) entry. The selection process is same, that is via CDS examination. The candidate has to be aged between 19 and 25 years with reference to 1st January of the year in which the course will start. Graduation from a recognized University is required. Both married and unmarried candidates may apply. After selection, a 49 weeks long training program will be provided at OTA, Chennai.
#3 NCC Entry
This is a special entry meant for NCC cadets. This is a non UPSC entry scheme. Candidate has to be aged between 19 and 25 years with reference to 1st July of the year (October course)/ 1st Jan of the year (April course). As usual, graduation from recognized University is required.

Indian Army Soldier recruitment
Since this is NCC special entry, along with B Sc, B Com or whatever graduation (like BA) entry, the candidate must also have served in the NCC for 2 years (Senior Division Army) with at least B grade in the C Certificate examination. Married or unmarried candidates may apply. Upon selection, 49 weeks long training will be provided at OTA, Chennai.

If you are well within the age limit, you may try NDA entry. Otherwise you may go for CDS entry after graduation. I’m talking about officer posts only.
