How to join IAF as an Officer after 12th Arts stream

Joining IAF (Indian Air Force) is a dream that many Indian youngsters nourish. But joining IAF is not an easy task. Their selection process is tough and much emphasis of laid on educational qualifications of aspirants applying for Commissioned Officers’ training! It is relatively easier for Science stream schooled candidates to apply for IAF jobs (Officer’s post). Non Science schooled students, such as Arts and Commerce stream students may still join the Ground Duty Branch of IAF as an Officer. But they can’t join right after 12th. There are some further educational qualifications that they must acquire, before they become eligible to apply. In this article, I will show how Arts stream students may become an Officer in IAF. I will show job posts in IAF, which candidates hailing from Arts stream are eligible to apply for.

Arts stream students can’t join IAF as Officer right after 12th

Please go through this section, it is very important. If you are an Arts stream student and want to join IAF as an Officer right after finishing 12th standard schooling, then there is no such Entry Scheme available that will be of help to you.

 

Arts stream students may join IAF as Officer after completing Graduation Degree and/or PG course

After 12th standard, Arts stream students may go for any 3 or 4 years long Graduation program from a Recognized University. After completing Degree course or while in the final year of it, they may appear for AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) and make it to the IAF Ground Duty Branch (after clearing written exam, SSB Interview, Medical test, selection and Training).

 

They are not eligible to join Flying or Technical Branch of the IAF. For them, only few branches of Ground Duty Branch is available.

 

Candidates who have had Arts stream schooling may join sub branches of Ground Duty Branch such as-

  • Administration Branch
  • Logistics Branch
  • Education Branch (only after PG course)
  • Accounts Branch (if you’ve completed Commerce [B.Com.] Degree or equivalent PG course)

 

Basic eligibility criteria

Between 20-26 years for both Graduates and Post Graduates, at the time when the course starts. Candidates below the age of 25 years must be unmarried.
Graduate Degree in any Discipline (exceptions exist in case of Accounts and Meteorology Branches) (Minimum 3 years long course) from a Recognized University with minimum 60% marks (aggregate, all papers put together) or PG Degree/Equivalent Diploma from a Recognized University with minimum 50% aggregate marks (all papers put together).
Both Male and Female candidates may apply. Permanent or Short Service Commission for Men. Only SSC for Women.

    Is there any chance that i could study physics after 12 th and join flying branch .
