The course duration is 3 years (6 semesters). But there also exists other better (and advanced) courses. Degree (B.E. or B.Tech.) holds more value that Diploma in Engineering. Diploma to Degree Lateral Entry (Engineering)
First of all, a student must have completed 3 years long Diploma in Engineering from a recognized institute or university. Candidates must hold a valid Diploma certificate in his/her chosen engineering branch. Eligible candidates may then take part in the lateral entry admission process (Diploma to Degree) and secure admission directly into the second year of Engineering (B.E. or B.Tech.) course. Typical Engineering (B.E. or B.Tech.) course is 4 years long. Lateral entry candidates will gain direct entry into the second year (3rd semester) of B.E. or B.Tech. program. After securing direct entry into the second year (3rd semester), students will have to see off remaining 6 semesters of B.E. or B.Tech. course. After completing this course, they’ll earn Bachelor or Engineering (or Technology) Degree!
How to secure admission?
DtoD admission is usually overseen by Technical Education admission committee/board. Names of such committees/boards may vary from one state to another – Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, UP, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Orissa etc. Admission process is merit based. Students’ performance in Diploma is taken into consideration and seats are allotted to deserving candidates. Some admission committees also conduct a D2D entrance test. For example – Jharkhand’s DtoDECE.
How to apply for D2D admission?
Application process is online. Interested candidates may refer relevant State’s technical education board website and apply online.
Date of applying
Date usually varies from one state to another. Advertisements about admissions are usually put up by the admission committee. Readers must keep an eye on official website of the admission committee.
