TNEA stands for Tamil Nadu Engineering admission. Come, let us take a closer look at TNEA-overview:

Conducted by: Anna University
Mode of application: Online
Level: State (Tamil Nadu)
Frequency: Conducted once in a year
Purpose: Admission into UG engineering programs
Mode of examination: No exam (just counseling)

TNEA deals with state level engineering admission process. Anna University conducts TNEA each year. The main aim of this test is to facilitate UG level engineering admission (B.E. or B.Tech.) of eligible candidates into state colleges in TN state.

Unlike regular engineering entrance exams, TNEA has no ‘entrance test’! It is just a counseling process. Eligible candidates may apply for TNEA admission. They will be subjected to counseling rounds. Based on their performance in the qualifying exam, seats will be distributed among deserving candidates.

TNEA 2023 Rank List

Each year, hundreds of thousands of candidates apply for TNEA counseling. Application forms are scrutinized by authorities conducting this process. They normalize the score of candidates and create a merit list. Merit list is created on the basis of marks scored by students in PCM subjects.

Tie breaking

Sometimes, it may happen that two or more candidates have the same rank! In the event of rank getting tied, tie breaking takes place.

For breaking this tie, authorities rely on the following aspects – Marks scored by the candidate in Mathematics, marks scored in physics, marks scored in chemistry or marks scored in optional subject. If it still doesn’t work, age of the candidate is taken into consideration (preference is given to the older candidate).

If nothing can break the tie, random number comes handy. As a last resort, random numbers will be used to break the tie!

The counseling process is carried out online. It is carried out over multiple rounds. Seats will be distributed among deserving candidates on the basis of their rank in the rank list. If a candidate wants to secure allotted seat, he/she must pay the initial fee requested.
