Essay on Sergio Ramos: My Favorite Sportsperson, Idol & Footballer

Last Updated on August 10, 2023 by Vishnu Nambiar

This essay is dedicated to Sergio Ramos – my favorite sportsperson. Here, I will share basic details about his career, his qualities, his personality, and reasons why people love and admire him.

When it comes to football, young kids often idolize flamboyant strikers. Yes, strikers grab most of the attention during a match. They are known for scoring stunning goals. They play a huge role in ensuring the team’s victory.

But I’m quite different. I admire and follow the defenders. Though they may not score stunning goals or provide awesome assists, I respect defenders a lot. They take care of the dirty business during each match. They make sure that the opposition attackers are kept at bay through headers, clearances, tackles, interceptions, etc.

A defensive performance may not be very pleasing to the normal fan’s eyes, but I find it quite attractive. A well-timed tackle, a well-judged clearance header, a well-timed interception – these things are as beautiful as a stunning goal or assist.

In short, I’m a huge fan of world-class defenders. Maldini, Chiellini, Nesta, Kompany, Vidic – these are some such world-class defenders of the modern game. Among them, Sergio Ramos is my favorite player.

Sergio has an aggressive playing style. He gives it his all on the field. Sergio is also known for scoring headers! His most famous goal has to be the one that leads to Real Madrid’s tenth Champions League trophy.

Let us talk about his career now. Sergio began his career at Sevilla’s youth academy. Gradually, he was promoted to the first team. He made his first team debut for Sevilla in 2004. He managed to put up some amazing performances in the field. He even managed to score goals against some top teams.

His stellar performances for Sevilla grabbed the attention of Real Madrid. One of the biggest and most successful clubs in La Liga. At this stage, he mostly used to play in the right-back position. On a few occasions, he was also used as a center-back or defensive midfielder.

With time, he made the center-back spot his permanent position. Unlike other defenders, Sergio has a knack for attacking corner deliveries and scoring goals off corner kicks. His heading ability and aerial prowess enable him to score crucial and decisive goals. Apart from that, he is also quite good at taking free kicks.

With Real, he won many La Liga titles, Champions League titles, and domestic trophies. He is a Real Madrid Legend. As of now, he has decided to join the French club PSG.

Sergio has had immense success with the National team too. With the Spanish National team, he has won two Euro Cups and one World Cup. This makes him a Spain National Team legend too.

On the field, Sergio gives it his all. He plays aggressively. Maybe this is the reason why he has amassed so many cards (yellow and red). Set disciplinary actions aside, he is a great footballer.   He is the perfect example of how hard work can take you places. Sergio teaches me that anything is possible with hard work, determination, and discipline.
