This essay is on the topic – my favorite sportsperson. Kids idolize their favorite sportsperson. And I’m not different either. My favorite sportsperson is the Egyptian wizard – Mohamed Salah. I’ve been following and emulating him since his days at AS Roma. This essay is dedicated to Mohamed Salah.
Before talking about my favorite sportsperson, let me tell you about how my love for football began. As a child, I was fond of playing football and cricket. In England, both games are popular. But football is the most popular one though.
For playing cricket, I’d need a bat, pads, and shoes. But for playing football, I didn’t need any fancy equipment or playing gear. Besides that, I could play football anywhere. This is how my love for football started.
During my childhood, we kids would play football on the streets. We would set up make-shift goalposts using bricks and sticks. In short, from a very young age, I was passionate about football. The English club Liverpool FC is near my place of residence. From a very young age, Liverpool FC has been my favorite club. Most of the time, I catch my favorite club in action on the TV and the internet. On some occasions, I even watch them live at Anfield.
Mohamed Salah caught my attention while he was playing for the Italian club AS Roma. I was very happy when Liverpool FC signed him. So far, Mohamed Salah has played for some huge clubs in Europe. Some of those clubs are – Chelsea, AS Roma, Fiorentina and Liverpool. Among these clubs, Salah has had the most rewarding stay at Liverpool. As of now, he is still playing for my favorite club.
Let me point out some of the prominent team honors won by him with Liverpool – Premier League, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup. Yes, he played an integral role in helping Liverpool win the Premier League title after a huge gap! And he even played an important role in their Champions League triumph.
So far, he has scored around 125 goals for Liverpool FC in all competitions. Liverpool fans just love their Egyptian Wizard! After all, he has helped them win a Premier League title and Champions League trophy (after a long gap).
At Anfield, Mohamed Salah has played some of his best football. At the club, he has forged a fruitful partnership with fellow forwards like Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane. The trio is one of the most lethal attacking trios in the whole of Europe.
Mohamed Salah is well known for his pace, trickery, dribbling, passing, shooting, flair, technique, and vision. He is capable of donning the following roles – winger, striker, or attacking midfielder. His pace is exceptional. With his raw pace, he is capable of outpacing defenders. Along with that, he is also pretty good at dribbling and ball control.
Once he sets off on one of his runs with the ball, it is very difficult to rob him of the ball. As a result, many defenders would resort to a foul to stop him! His shooting is top-notch. He can curl the ball, and shoot it with power and precision. In the opposition box, he can score from almost anywhere! He can shoot the ball with power or simply curl it with accuracy and elegance. In the box, he is like an eagle, who has a good eye for the goal.
At Liverpool, Salah has won many personal accolades and awards such as – The Player of the Month award, the top scorer award, and more. Before moving to Liverpool, he used to play for AS Roma. Before that, he used to play for other clubs like Chelsea, Basel, Fiorentina, etc. Come, let us take a close look at his early career and life.

Mohamed Salah was born in Egypt. Since his childhood, young Mohamed was interested in playing football. Little Salah and his friends would spend a considerable amount of time playing football on the streets. With time, he started playing for local clubs. His breakthrough came when he joined the youth team of Al Mokawloon.
At the youth level of his new club, he managed to leave an impression on his coaches and manager. One fine day, the club’s first team manager happened to notice young Salah. Mohamed’s show on the field prompted the manager to move him to the first team.
But young Salah was too thin to take on the first team’s challenges and demands. As a result, the club decided to put him on a special diet. In 2010, he made his Egyptian Premier League debut.
The next step in his career came when he was signed by the Swiss club – Basel. He settles into life in Switzerland. In his first season, his team won the Swiss Super League. In his second season at the club, Salah was unstoppable. He impressed in the Champions League matches against Chelsea.
In his second season as well, Salah won the Swiss Super League title with Basel. Thanks to his stunning performance against Chelsea, big clubs were now keeping an eye on him. But in the end, Chelsea signed him.
Salah was never properly utilized by Chelsea. He was capable of doing exceptional things. But the club already had surplus resources at their disposal. As a result, they decided to loan him out to Italian side Fiorentina.
Fiorentina was well rewarded for this move. In about 16 matches, Salah scored six goals for the Italian side. He showed signs of promise through his performances. The following season, he was loaned out again. This time, he was loaned out to another Italian club – AS Roma. The Italian club trusted him and he paid them back by scoring 14 goals for them in all competitions. That season, he played exceptionally well. This helped Roma finish third in the league. The club awarded him with the Player of the Season award.
Looking at his incredible contribution, AS Roma decided to make the loan move permanent and signed him permanently in 2016. In his second season for Roma, Mohamed Salah was simply unstoppable. He scored 19 goals in all competitions for the club and AS Roma finished second in the league.
Seeing Salah’s rapid progress, Liverpool decided to sign him. And the rest, as they say, is history. As of now, Salah is still playing for my favorite club. I hope he stays in Liverpool for a long time. At the international level, he has represented Egypt’s national team in tournaments like – the Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifiers.
On the field, Salah is a fierce competitor. He is hard-working and determined to score goals and help his team win. Off the field, he is a simple guy. He stays away from flashy life and unnecessary controversies. He is also involved in numerous charity and philanthropic activities.
