Essay on Kylian Mbappe: My Favorite Sportsperson, Footballer & Icon

Last Updated on August 10, 2023 by Vishnu Nambiar

This essay is on the topic – my favorite sportsperson. My favorite sport is football. I also like tennis, athletics, and volleyball. But football is my favorite sport. And when it comes to football, French sensation Kylian Mbappe is my favorite footballer.

This essay is dedicated to Kylian. He is supremely talented and knows how to utilize his talent. Here, I’ve provided a brief outline of his career, his skills, his qualities, and reasons why I admire him.

As mentioned before, football is my favorite sport. I’m a huge fan of European and American leagues such as – English Premier League, La Liga (Spanish top flight), Bundesliga, Serie A, MLS, etc. I’m not a huge fan of the French Ligue 1. But one player made me like it! Yes, I’m talking about Kylian. Ever since he burst onto the scene at AS Monaco, I started following French Ligue 1.

Generally speaking, forwards have always thrilled and inspired me. When it comes to playing football, my preferred position is – winger. I love charging down the flanks, beating defenders, performing some tricks with the ball, wading through the defense line, etc.

So when I see similar players on TV and the internet, they really catch my attention. Cristiano Ronaldo, Angel Di Maria, Lionel Messi, Alexis Sanchez – these are some such tricky forwards. But ever since Mbappe started featuring for the likes of AS Monaco and PSG, he has been my favorite forward.

He has all the traits a good forward should possess – trickery, pace, control, dribbling skills, passing skills, shooting skills, tactical awareness, and creativity. His pace is a cause of worry among defenders. With the ball at his feet, he can run very fast, take on defenders, and beat them as well.

This allows him to get free space for shooting or crossing the ball. Let us talk about his shooting skills now. He is good at shooting the ball with both legs. His shot has power and accuracy. He is also a good passer and crosser of the ball. Apart from scoring goals, he is also good at assisting his teammates.

Mbappe is not just about pace and shooting. He is also a tactically sound player. His tactical awareness is top-notch. His positioning, passing, and creativity make him a proper team player. He is quite good at running into open spaces and exploiting space.

In short, he is a great modern-day forward. And at a very young age, he has shown great composure and maturity. In his teen years, he managed to perform feats that many of us can only dream of (for example – scoring in the World Cup final).

I will quickly run through his early career and life. Mbappe was born in Paris to immigrant parents. His father is a football coach. His father introduced young Kylian to football at an early age.   Under his father’s tutelage, young Kylian began his career at AS Bondy. From a very young age, Kylian used to shine on the field. When compared to kids his age, Kylian was much more talented and was performing at another level altogether!

Thanks to his performances on the field for AS Bondy, he was selected to join the coveted Clairefontaine Academy. He courted attention from numerous top European clubs. He eventually chose to join AS Monaco.

AS Monaco drafted him into their B team. They wanted to polish the young talent and prepare him for the first team. But Mbappe proved them wrong. Within just three weeks, he managed to convince the management (through his performances) to promote him to the first team.

And the rest, as they say, is history. In his second season at AS Monaco, Mbappe managed to impress the coach, management, and fans. He contributed a lot towards the team’s Ligue winning campaign. Under the mentorship of Radamel Falcao, he matured into a dangerous and effective forward. Overall, he scored 26 goals in all competitions that year for AS Monaco.

Mbappe’s breakthrough season forced PSG to sign him. They managed to arrange a loan deal for the youngster. Eventually, this loan move was made permanent in a world record transfer. With PSG, Kylian won many league titles, domestic cups, trophies, and individual accolades. He set many personal records and milestones while playing for PSG. He became the league’s top scorer consecutively.

As of now, he is still playing for PSG. At international level, he has represented France at World Cup in 2018 and Euro 2020. World Cup 2018 was a successful campaign for Mbappe and his French national team. They won the World Cup in style and Mbappe managed to score in the final.

At such a young age, Kylian Mbappe has achieved a lot. He has won the World Cup and even scored in the final. Despite his exploits on the field, he remains humble and wishes to learn more. He is still working hard to believes that there is still room for improvement.
