Last Updated on August 10, 2023 by Vishnu Nambiar

My favorite footballer is Eden Hazard. He is also my favorite sportsperson. This essay is on the topic – of my favorite sportsperson and is dedicated to my hero Eden Hazard.

I’m a Chelsea supporter. Eden Hazard had a successful and productive stay at Chelsea. As of now, he is playing for Real Madrid. Still, we Chelsea fans have a special place for Eden in our hearts.

I’ve been a football fan since my childhood. And I’ve been supporting Chelsea FC since my childhood. I follow their matches on TV and the Internet. When possible, I even visit Stamford Bridge to catch the action in person.

In short, I’m a huge fan of Chelsea FC. The club has its legends such as – John Terry, Frank Lampard, Zola, etc. But my favorite player is – Eden Hazard.

Chelsea signed him in 2012 from the French club Lille. I was very happy when my favorite club signed the talented Eden Hazard. Before joining Chelsea, he was quite popular across Europe. He was known for being this tricky, speedster who could score goals and provide defence-splitting passes.

He had a reputation for taking on defenders and was known to be fearless on the field. So when Chelsea finally decided to sign him, I was very excited. The club was buying a player who could add another dimension to their attacking lineup.

And Eden didn’t disappoint me or other Chelsea supporters. He mesmerized us through his eye-catching displays on the field. He had what it takes to be a lethal forward. He had the pace, trickery, ball control, passing ability, dribbling skills, awareness, creativity, and tactical awareness. His on-field qualities made him an unstoppable player.

Eden taking on and beating defenders became a regular sight in the Premier League! When Eden had the ball at his feet, defenders used to panic. His stay in the EPL was not as easy as an evening walk! He had his fair share of rough patches too.

For example, his dribbling skills and trickery attracted unwanted attention from defenders and opponents. Dispossessing him was very difficult. In order to do so, opponents would dive into rash and reckless challenges. His body had to take a lot of damage on the field. This even resulted in him getting injured on many occasions. Due to injuries, he even had to miss crucial game time.

He even had those patches where he was unable to score goals. One such goalless patch lasted for over a month. But he was determined to prove his doubters wrong. He faced those difficulties and made impressive comebacks (by recovering from injuries and scoring goals).   During his stay at Chelsea, he has won the following team honors – Premier League (twice), FA Cup, Football League Cup, and Europa League (twice). In total, he has played over three fifty matches for Chelsea and scored around 110 goals in all competitions for the club.

In 2019, it was announced that Eden Hazard will join Real Madrid. I was unhappy when I heard about the transfer development. At Madrid, his playing time has been limited due to injuries. As a result, he has not been able to reach his best at the new club.

As of now, he is still playing for Real Madrid. With Real Madrid, he has won the La Liga title. Okay, let us talk about his early career and life now. Eden Hazard was born in Belgium. His parents are former footballers. After finishing their playing career, they became sports teachers. His brother Thorgan Hazard is a well-known professional footballer. His other brothers – Kylian and Ethan – too are professional footballers.

Though he started playing football in Belgium, his career really took off in France. At a very young age, little Eden was fascinated by football. His parents played a crucial role in his early life and career. They are former professional footballers. Their passion for football was passed on to young Eden and his brothers.

At the age of four, he started playing for Royal Stade Brainois – his hometown club. From a very young age, he managed to impress his coaches and managers. They would label him as immensely talented and gifted.

After leaving his hometown club, he was signed by Tubize. At Tubize, he managed to grab the attention of scouts from the French club Lille. And he managed to secure a move to the French club Lille in 2005.

Through hard work and dedication, he managed to rise through the ranks at Lille. He was a part of the club’s youth team. From the youth setup, he progressed to the reserve team. After impressing at the reserve team setup, he made his amateur debut for the first team. And with time, he even secured a place in the first team of Lille.

At Lille, he developed into a tricky winger. He was also capable of operating in other positions such as – attacking midfielder, striker, false 9, etc. With each passing season, Eden developed into a far better player. After a season or two, he became a crucial part of Lille’s attacking lineup. He was fearless and enjoyed taking on defenders.

With Lille, he has won the following team honors – Ligue 1 and Coupe de France. His eye-catching form and performance at Lille prompted Chelsea FC to sign him. At the international level, Eden plays for and captains the Belgium national team. So far, he has represented the team at major tournaments such as – World Cup and Euro.

He is my idol and source of inspiration. I admire the way in which he faced the rough patches in his career. Injuries, dip in goal-scoring form – he has braved such adversities in style. His life teaches me to stay positive even during difficult times.
