Sound (Audio) Engineering after 12th: Scope, career and salary details

These days, most students, after 12th standard, tend to choose tried and tested Engineering Branches and other commonly pursued Professional courses. In this article, I will be discussing about a slightly less pursued Professional course. The course that I will be dealing is- Sound (Audio) Engineering. This course teaches students about the technical and creative aspects of recording, editing and using different sounds for various purposes (closely related to art performances). Here, I will discuss about basic course details, scope and career prospects.

Who should pursue Sound Engineering?

It is an Aptitude based course. Not everyone can study Sound (Audio) Engineering and go on and build a rewarding career in this area. Students who are genuinely interested in different types of sounds, music, and have creativity will find this course to be of use and will enjoy pursuing it.

 

Course details and Eligibility Criteria

Students may pursue the 2 years long Diploma in Sound Engineering course. To pursue this course, a student must have completed 10+2 Schooling with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects. In case of Admission process, some Institutes may even conduct their own entrance and Aptitude examinations. Also check – list of courses after 12th Science.

 

Career prospects, Salary and Job opportunities after completing the course

The entertainment Industry is the prime job provider. One may work as a Sound Engineer in Movies. While starting out, one will have to work as an assistant/technician. Gradually, one will be able to climb up the career ladder.

 

Apart from Film Industry, one may also find work in sectors such as- advertisements, documentaries, Acoustics (auditoriums, studios, concert halls and other musical events etc).

 

Talking about starting salary, it is generally around 15-20k Rupees per month. With time and further work experience, this figure will rise significantly. Industry experts and leading Sound Engineering earn well more than 100k Rupees per month. Their earning is based on projects that they undertake.

FTII Pune and SRFTI Kolkata- In case of these National Institutes, while applying, a candidate must possess a Graduate Degree (Physics subject included). M.G.R. Government Film and Television Institute (Chennai), The School of Audio Engineering (Chennai) and The Harmonics School of Audio Technology (Hyderabad) are also good Institutes offering Sound Engineering course.

  1. Sir I very Very like this course shall I do this course I have PCMB group in 12 th I don’t see this article yesterday. I think I have chance to enhance my music knowledge in this feild sir I don’t take more stress but I really like this feild so tell me it is hard or easy and their is any work with computer for per day like 4to 5 hours or more sir sorry for disturb you sir please tell me what year course is this I am very happy to know this thanks sir it is because of you sir please reply me
