M.E./M.Tech. Marine Engineering is a 2 years long Post Graduate Level course that one may pursue after completing B.E./B.Tech. course (relevant branches that I’ve mentioned below in this article). M.E./M.Tech. Marine Engineering- basic course details

It is a 2 years long Post Graduate Level Degree program. The 2 years’ duration is divided into 4 semesters, with each semester lasting a period of 6 months.

 

M.E./M.Tech. Marine Engineering program can be said to be comprised of three main sections. Those sections are-

  • Core Marine Engineering Technical Knowledge and Subjects (theory as well as practical)
  • Management Skills (communication skills, management skills etc)
  • Commercial and Legal aspects of Shipping sector

 

Those were the three major sections that constitutes this M.E./M.Tech. program. From them, it is evident that this PG Marine Engineering program trains students in different areas like- Naval Architecture (advanced level), Ship Design, Offshore Technologies, Offshore structures Design, Shipyard Design, Machinery Design and Maintenance etc.

 

Along with the core Marine Engineering subjects mentioned above, management oriented subjects also play an important role in this program. Communications skills are given much importance. This is due to the fact that Merchant Navy jobs requires one to be fluent in more than one language (especially fluent in English).

 

Commercial aspects and knowledge related to the Shipping sector is also covered in this program, along with Legal aspect related to this field.

Marine Engineering, B.E./B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering, B.E./B.Tech. Electrical Engineering, Naval Architecture etc.

 

In case of some Institutes, passing an Aptitude/Entrance examination is necessary, in order to get admission.

Shipping sector is a very rewarding place to build a career in. Different job roles are available in front of Graduates. They may work as Shipyard Design Officers, Ship Design Engineers, Marine Engineer aboard Merchant Navy ships or become an Instructor at Maritime Institutes.
