Hi readers! In this post, we will deal with an M.Tech. program that is related to Mechanical Engineering. Here, we will have an in-depth analysis of M.Tech. Mechanical Systems Design course.
Table of Contents
- Name of the course: M.Tech. Mechanical Systems Design
- Type of course: M.Tech.
- Field: Mechanical Engineering
- Duration: 2 years
- Eligibility: Completed relevant B.E./B.Tech. course or equivalent qualification
As the name suggests, this is M.Tech. program. M.Tech. stands for Master of Technology. It is a Master’s Degree program. Technically, it is a PG level course. PG stands for Postgraduate level. PG courses can be pursued by candidates who have completed relevant Bachelor’s Degree course. Since this is M.Tech. course, applicant must have completed relevant B.E. or B.Tech. program or possess an equivalent qualification. Mechanical Systems Design is a part of Mechanical Engineering. This M.Tech. program is an ideal PG course for Mechanical Engineering graduates. What’s Mechanical Systems Design all about? What’s the scope and potential associated with this domain? What’s it like to specialize in this field? Will I get a job after completing this M.Tech. program? You will find answers to these questions in the next section.
Mechanical Systems Design: An Introduction
Mechanical Systems form an integral part of Mechanical Engineering. This domain deals with the study, design, development, maintenance, repair and operation of mechanical systems. What is a mechanical system, you may ask. A mechanical system manages power to accomplish a task that involves forces and movement. Examples of mechanical systems include – automobiles, robotic units and systems, steam engine, production units, machines etc. Generally, mechanical systems are complex structures, which consist of different types of components. Broadly speaking, a mechanical system can be said to be made of three parts –
- Power Source
- Mechanisms
- Controllers
Take steam engine as an example. It consists of a power source, mechanism to transfer this power to get the desired output and controllers to regulate the flow of power to get the desired performance. Similarly, other mechanical systems also consist of power sources and actuators. These parts generate the force. Mechanisms are present, which ensure that the power is used to achieve the desired output. Controllers are used to regulate the output performance by varying the actuator input. The above paragraph may make these tasks look simple. But in reality, mechanical systems are much more complex. Take modern automobile as an example. It consists of advanced electronics systems, sensors and thousands of components. Mechanical System Design deals with the study, design, development, maintenance and operation of mechanical system. It is an integral part of mechanical engineering. Mechanical Engineering is a broad field. It is one of the core branches of engineering. Machines form an integral part of this discipline. Mechanical systems design directly deals with the design of machines. Mechanical systems are used in various places. They are used in automobiles, production units, lifts and many other areas. Since its areas of application are many, this discipline commands much value and importance. A mechanical systems designer is capable of performing tasks such as –
- Design of mechanical systems
- Development of mechanical systems
- Installation and operation of mechanical systems
- Maintenance and repair of mechanical systems
M.Tech. Mechanical Systems Design course is known to generate skilled designers. The course will train you in areas such as –
- Mechanics of materials
