If a patient/accident victim receives first aid and emergency service at the right time, his/her chances of survival will increase drastically!   The main aim of Diploma in First Aid and Emergency Services course is to train students about first aid, emergency medical procedures and trauma care. The training turns them into skilled first aid and medical emergency technicians.   Performing first aid procedures, providing emergency medical services and operating relevant medical equipment are not easy tasks. There are many technical aspects associated with first aid and emergency medical services!   Some of the technical aspects associated with first aid and emergency medical services are –

Type of course

It is a Diploma course.

Course duration

The course is 1 to 3 years long. Some institutes are known to offer 3 years long course. Some other institutes are known to offer 2 years and 1 year long course.   One thing I’ve noticed is that the 3 years long course is meant for 10th passed students (hence the extra one year). The 2 year long course is meant for 12th passed (with PCB subjects) students.

Eligibility criteria

It varies from one institute to another. I’ve noted that eligibility criteria depends upon the duration of the course.   It has been noted that the 3 years long course can be pursued by students who have completed 10th standard. It also has been noted that the 2 years long course can be pursued by students who have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects.

There exists many Government and Private colleges across India offering this course. Government colleges charge relatively lower fees than their private counterparts.

Diploma in First Aid and Emergency Services Admission

Reputed institutes rely on merit based admission process. Such institutes make use of relevant entrance test to select deserving candidates. Some institutes are also known to conduct their own qualifying test in order to select deserving candidates.   Some other institutes are also known to conduct direct as well as donation based admission process.

On an average, starting salary could be anywhere between 8-15K INR per month. In case of a Government job, the salary will be as per the pay scale and grade. Abroad, the salary is much higher than what it is in India.
