Have you completed 12th standard? Are you confused about which course to pursue after 12th? If yes, this article will be of help to you. Here, I’ve listed down various types of courses after 12th.

Professional course chosen by a student plays a huge role in shaping his/her career. This is the main reason why students must give utmost importance to course selection!   Are you confused about course selection? With so many professional courses to choose from, it is okay to be confused!   In order to get rid of confusion, the first thing you should do is – get as much details about professional courses as possible! Yes, knowing about the topic inside-out will help you make an informed choice!   The fact that concerns me the most is that many students are unaware about the options and types of courses available in front of them!   Let’s move to the meat of the matter – types of courses after 12th. Here they are –

Different types of courses after 12th

Based on the observations, these are the main formats of courses available in India after 12th –

  • Bachelor’s Degree courses
  • Diploma courses
  • ITI courses
  • Vocational courses
  • Certificate courses
  • Integrated Degree courses (UG + PG)

The above mentioned programs are undergraduate level courses. It means that 12th passed students are eligible to pursue these courses.   Once you complete Bachelor’s Degree program, you will have access to various PG (Postgraduate) courses. Notable PG course formats are –

  • Master’s Degree courses (M.Sc., MS, MBA etc)
  • PG Diploma courses
  • PG Certificate courses
  • Doctoral courses (after completing relevant Master’s Degree)

Streams in 11th and 12th

Okay, we have checked the various formats of courses after 12th. But what about the streams in 11th and 12th? Do they influence these courses?   First of all, here are the three main streams in 11th and 12th schooling phase –

  • Arts and Humanities
  • Commerce
  • Science

A student is supposed to choose any one stream after completing 10th standard (if he/she wants to continue PUC schooling).   The fact is that there’s a thing called ‘eligibility criteria’. Irrespective of the format of the course, there’s an eligibility criteria associated with each course after 12th.   Some courses are reserved for Science stream students. Some other courses are reserved for commerce stream students. And some other courses may be reserved for arts and humanities students!   But in cases of many courses, students from any stream are eligible to pursue them! In such cases, 12th pass (irrespective of the student’s stream) is the minimum qualification required!
