In this article, you will be reading about ITI courses after 12th. This article has been crafted keeping the needs of vocational training aspirants in mind. Some of the best job oriented courses have been listed here.

What is an ITI (Industrial Training Institute)?

ITI stands for Industrial Training Institute. ITIs have been set up with the aim of providing vocational training to Indian students. ITIs are constituted under the DGET (Directorate General of Employment and Training), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Union Government.   As I mentioned before, ITIs impart technical training to students. They focus on providing vocational training and developing industry-specific skills. The main aim of such institutes is to develop a skilled work force in India.   At present, there are numerous ITIs across India, both Government and private, providing vocational training to students. On completion of the training, the candidates appear for the AITT (All India Trade Test). Successful candidates are given the NTC (National Trade Certificate).   The main aim of an ITI is to make its students industry-ready, to make him/her job-ready. To make this possible, ITIs even conduct apprenticeship programs.

Know more about ITI trades (courses)

ITIs in India offer training programs known as ‘trades’. Each trade focuses on a specific industry or set of skills. In this article, we will refer ‘trades’ simply as ‘courses’.

ITI course duration

ITI courses’ duration could be anywhere between 6 months to 2 years. Course duration depends upon the type and nature of the course.

Types of ITI courses

Broadly speaking, there are two main types of ITI courses. They are –

  1. Engineering courses/trades
  2. Non-engineering courses/trades

Engineering courses are technical in nature. They focus on concepts of engineering, mathematics, science and technology.   Non-engineering courses, as the name suggests, are not usually technical in nature. They focus on soft skills, languages, and other sector-specific skills and knowledge. In this article, you will find both engineering and non-engineering trades.

Eligibility criteria varies from one course to another. Generally, the requirements may range from 8th pass to 12th pass, depending upon the course!
