Failing in 12th standard is not end of the world! But many Indian parents and students thinks so! Come on, just getting schooled is not enough! To excel in life, skills are required the most, not schooling! One shouldn’t be disheartened upon failing in 12th standard. One may apply for re writing the exams or move on with some new courses. Here, I’ll share with you some good courses for such 12th failed students. These courses will ensure that you have a good career. I’m only listing the few ones that I’ve hand-picked.
See, it is always recommended to re write the 12th standard exams. But, if you insist on getting the list of courses that are good, I’ll suggest you the following list-
Some good courses for 12th failed students
#1 Some good diploma courses
In case you are a 12th science failed student, you may use your 10th standard marks and certificate and get yourself enrolled in diploma courses. The various diploma courses are-
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Civil Engineering
- Computer Engineering
These are some of the many diploma course that you can do. These courses can be done directly after 10th standard, depending on your marks. And since you failed in 12th class, you may submit your 10th standard’s mark-sheet and certificate to get into this course!
#2 Some relatively new diploma courses
The above mentioned courses are the ‘traditional ones’, for which a 12th failed student is eligible. But here, I’ll list some courses that are relatively new and have good job and career opportunities.
Let’s take a look at those new diploma courses-
Diploma in Marine field
There are different diploma courses within this field. Like- diploma in marine engineering (based on 10th standard marks), diploma in marine technology, other diploma courses like welder, wire man, sailor etc.
These courses have an eligibility criteria of 10th pass. So, 12th failed students may easily apply for these courses and get accepted!
The career opportunities that these courses offer is unparalleled. The salary will be good and the career adventurous!
But before you join any institute offering these courses, make sure that you do a good background check of it. Check whether the institute has been approved by the Government. Also check factors like- the quality of the faculty, the infrastructure and the facilities provided, whether they are following a recognized curriculum and syllabus etc. Join only after examining these things.
Diploma in various computer courses
A very good option indeed. There are loads of computer courses to choose from- programming, graphics design, web designing, app development, ethical hacking, digital marketing etc.
There are many institutes that offers diploma courses on these subjects. Usually, these courses are 6 months to 1 year long. At the end, on the completion of the course, students are given a certificate. Good institutes also provide placement in good companies.
The advantage of these courses is that you may start your own business based on the skills you acquire! It is all about skills and making use of them.
But before you join any institute to do the above mentioned courses, make sure that you go through the routine background checking process! It is necessary to select a ‘recognized’ institute. Nowadays, there are many ‘fake’ and inferior quality institutions operating throughout India!
Computer hardware and networking courses
I think these courses are most preferred by 12th failed students. I see many of them enrolling up for hardware and networking courses. Of course, there are some big institutes offering the above mentioned courses. The duration of the course varies between 1-2 years. In the end, students are awarded with a certificate. Depending on the institute, there are also chances of getting placement!
Diploma courses in industrial courses
India’s industrial growth is taking place at a very fast pace. Just take a look at Gujarat, there are some many production industries in this state. So many new ones are formed each year!
With the increase in the number of industries, the demand of skilled workers is also on the rise! Skilled workers like- electricians, welders, fitters, fire and safety personnel etc are in huge demand.
And the good news is that there are many institutes that offers diploma course and ITI courses of these subjects. They offer hands on training and prepare you for taking up jobs in those industries.
There are many institutes that offers courses like- fire and safety, electrician course, welding etc. Don’t be fooled that the career opportunity is limited and the pay will be low! Skilled workers are rewarded well! You may even go to gulf countries, where skilled workers are valued and paid well!

sir, I scored 67% in my 12th grade and had taken science( computer math) I scored only 38 in maths. Whether you’ll get admission (B.Com.) or not depends on the overall merit situation and cutoff marks. You may take a look at previous year’s cutoff marks and get n idea about whether you will get admission or not. Science students are eligible to pursue B.Com. course. If you are willing to work hard after securing admission, you may adapt well to this new course.
Interior designing have a good scope ?
If you have the necessary skills and creativity, you may make it big in this field.

Aditya, re-examination would be a good step. Clearing the exam fully will give you access to many good professional courses. In the mean time, you may study those subjects. If you get time, you may also go for short term computer courses.

Amrutha, I’m not knowledgeable about institutes. Why don’t you try to clear the subjects in which you’ve failed? Passing fully in those subjects will give you access to relevant Degree courses such as BA in Graphic Design and Animation, B.Sc. in Animation and Game Design, BA in Animation and Web Designing etc.

Arron, as far as I know, you have to pass fully to get admission in such professional courses. However, you may enquire at local colleges offering BBA course regarding their admission policy.

Rahul, without passing in all of the 12th board subjects, you won’t be eligible to pursue Biochemistry Degree course. You’ll have to re appear and clear it fully.

Rads, your state board must also be giving an opportunity to reappear for the failed subjects. You may make use of that opportunity, if available. NIOS is open schooling program. It will help you in passing 12th board. You may make use of their certificate to get admission in Colleges. I’m not sure whether you will be able to do so in the same year. It will take some time before you are allowed to appear for the exam.

I failed 12th examination.I was a science stream student in CBSE and failed in physics,chemistry and maths.Then i joined NIOS and cleared chemistry but still couldn’t make my maths & physics.That is because meanwhile i have done CA-CPT and i have lost all my science topics and now i feel very difficult to cover these subjects.NIOS will allow to change subjects, but i will have to wait another one year.Sir, now i have studied commerce subjects and i’m confident with those subjects.So i think i may change my board and rewrite the exam with commerce subjects without wasting an year.

Krunal, appear for re-examination. Else do 12th Schooling from NIOS and then clear the exam. Another option is to go for Diploma course.
Sir I am science student I pass my ssc with 56 percent n failed in hsc in pcm I gave my October exam but failed in that I don’t want to suggest me some carrer n job oriented diploma from commerce field after that I can do mba in that ? If your failed in 12 or 11th then NIOS is best way to continue and it will save your year and it is equalent to 10+2 then you can continue your degree or engineering even IIT i think ^_^
Don’t cry or get depressee there is lot more to learn ^_<
Go to NIOS website and get all the information you can contact them they gave a toll free number ^_^
I don't think the above mentioned diplomas are good because those diploma can be done by 10class + students that means we are wasting 2years its a lot

Kedar, there are number of private institutes offering gaming and animation related courses. You may also go for Java course too.
I live in Pune, Maharashtra & I scored 80 percent in my 10th which I did from ICSE board but I failed in my 12th (HSC board) in 2 subjects, physics and Electronics. Actually I got distracted by certain issues. I regret it alot. But sadly once I failed in my 12th,my life changed alot. In India our education system is made in such a way that if you fail you Re treated like a loser. So please guide me, I would love to do any diploma course or some other course and bring my life back on track. Please help 🙂
Vandit, I agree with the facts you shared and can understand the situation you are going through right now. I’d suggest you to take up Diploma courses of any particular Engineering branch using your 10th standard scores. Later, after completing Diploma, you may take up Degree courses too! All the best!
