Different types of pharmacy courses
In India, Pharmacy courses are available in the following main formats –
- Diploma course.
- Bachelor’s Degree course.
- Master’s Degree course.
- Doctoral Degree course.
The above-mentioned courses belong to categories such as – UG-level courses, PG-level courses, and Doctoral Degree courses. Pharmacy colleges across India are known to offer these courses. Colleges in Ujjain too offer the above-mentioned courses.
B.Pharm. is a Bachelor’s Degree course. This academic program comes under the UG (Undergraduate) level. Students who have passed 12th standard (Science) are eligible to pursue this course.
M.Pharm. stands for Master of Pharmacy. This is a Master’s Degree course and comes under the PG (Postgraduate) level. Students who have completed B.Pharm. or hold an equivalent qualification are eligible to pursue this course.
Pharm.D. stands for Doctor of Pharmacy. It is a UG-level course but is much more detailed than B.Pharm. program. Students who have passed the 12th Science stream are eligible to pursue this course.
Different types of pharmacy colleges
There are three types of Pharmacy colleges in Ujjain. They are –
- Government Pharmacy Colleges.
- Aided Pharmacy colleges.
- Private Pharmacy colleges.
Government colleges are operated and owned by the state government. The expense of running such a college is borne by the state treasury. It is the department of technical education that managed these colleges.
This is the main reason why Government pharmacy colleges charge relatively lower tuition fees. Aided colleges are not entirely owned by the state government. But they still receive monetary support from the state government.
Private colleges are also known as Self Financed institutes. They are owned and operated by charitable trusts and private organizations. They charge relatively higher fees.

Admission Process
Reputed institutes conduct merit-based admission processes. They rely on marks scored by candidates in board exams and/or relevant entrance exams to allot seats to deserving candidates.
