Types of pharmacy course
Pharmacy colleges in Tamil Nadu offer courses belonging to three main levels –
- UG level.
- PG level.
- Doctoral Degree level.
UG stands for undergraduate level. PG stands for postgraduate level. Doctoral Degree courses are research programs.
Diploma in Pharmacy
This Diploma certificate course is 3 years long. Students who have passed the 12th class are eligible to pursue this course.
Bachelor of Pharmacy
This is a UG-level course. Technically, it is a Bachelor’s Degree course. The academic program is 4 years long. Students who have passed the 12th Science stream are eligible to pursue this course.
Pharm D
Pharm D stands for Doctor of Pharmacy. 12th Science pass students are eligible to pursue this course. This is a UG-level academic program. The course duration is 6 years.
Master of Pharmacy
This is a PG-level course. Technically, it is a Master’s Degree course. Students who have completed relevant Bachelor’s Degree courses (like B.Pharm.) are eligible to pursue this course. The course duration is 2 years. M.Pharm. program can be used to specialize in sub-branches within the field of pharmacy.

Different types of pharmacy colleges
Here are the three main types of pharmacy colleges in Tamil Nadu –
- Government colleges.
- Private colleges.
- Aided colleges.
Government colleges are funded and managed by the state Government. The Government handles activities such as – administration, recruitment, finance, etc. As a result, these colleges charge very low tuition fees.
Aided colleges are private colleges. They receive partial funding from the Government. Private pharmacy colleges are self-financing colleges. These colleges are managed and funded by private charitable trusts and organizations.

Admission Process
