What is sports medicine all about, some of you may ask. Come, let us take a close look at this domain –
Sports Medicine: Basic Details
Sports medicine is a branch of medical science. This branch deals with physical fitness, injuries, nutrition and other medical aspects related to sports and physical performance.
In order to thrive or excel in any type of sport, one must be fit, injury-free and well-conditioned. Sports medicine primarily deals with aspects such as – physical fitness, injuries (treatment and prevention), nutrition and overall performance (analysis and improvement) of athletes.
Let us consider an example – the IPL. As we all know, it is a highly competitive tournament. A team would like to keep its players fit and fine throughout the tournament. An individual’s fitness and conditioning will affect his performance.
When it comes to this tournament, it is not uncommon to see players fall prey to injuries and burnout. In order to deal with these problems, most of the teams hire a team physician. After completing MD Sports Medicine course, you may don the role of ‘team physician’!
As part of this role, a team physician must look into common sports injuries such as – trauma, muscle strains, musculoskeletal problems etc. Apart from that, the physician must also take care of fitness, conditioning and nutrition of the teams players.
MD Sorts Medicine is a PG level medical course. The course duration is three years.
