What is nuclear medicine all about, some of you may ask. Come, let us find out more about this branch of medicine.
Nuclear Medicine: Basic Details
In simple terms, nuclear medicine is a branch of medical science that deals with the use of radioactive substances for diagnosing and treating diseases. In other words, this branch of specialization deals with diagnostic tasks as well as interventional (treatment) tasks.
Nuclear medicine imaging is carried out for diagnostic purposes. For this task, radio-pharmaceuticals are taken internally, which helps capture medical images of the required organ or part of the body. Based on the inputs, medical practitioners may diagnose the disease.
As discussed before, nuclear medicine also has an interventional side! It can be used to treat different types of conditions and diseases. MD Nuclear Medicine course is three years long. Candidates who have completed MBBS program are eligible to pursue this postgraduate medical course.
Admission process
Merit based admission process is followed for Medical PG admission in India. NEET PG examination is conducted to facilitate merit based admission process.
