Types of Law Colleges
In Assam, there exist two main types of law colleges. They are –
- Government law colleges
- Private law colleges
Government colleges are funded and managed by the State or Central Government. These colleges rely on the Government (or relevant Government departments) for funding, recruitment, administration, admission etc. These colleges charge very low tuition fees. Private law colleges are funded and managed by private charitable trusts, educational trusts and organizations. These colleges are also known as self-financing institutes. In order to get into a Government or reputed private law college, you must crack a relevant law entrance exam. These exams are carried out to facilitate law admission process. Some colleges are also known to conduct direct and donation-based admission processes.
