Different types of dental colleges in India

Based on the entity that owns the college, dental colleges in India can be broadly classified into two types – Government dental colleges and private dental colleges. Government dental colleges are owned and managed by relevant departments of the State or Central Government. On the other hand, private dental colleges are owned and managed by private educational and/or charitable trusts.

It is a well-known fact that Govt dental colleges provide subsidized education to students. These colleges charge relatively lower tuition fees. On the other hand, private colleges are known to charge relatively higher tuition fees. This is the main reason why candidates prefer Government dental colleges over private ones.

Admission process

The dental admission process is based on a merit list. The dental admission process is facilitated through relevant entrance exams. These exams are conducted at the state, college, and national levels.

When it comes to the merit-based admission process, seats are distributed among deserving candidates on the basis of their performance in relevant entrance tests. However, the admission process may vary from one college to another. Private colleges are also known to carry out direct or donation-based admission processes.
