Types of architecture colleges
There exists two main types of architecture colleges in South India –
- Government colleges
- Private colleges
Classification of colleges has been carried out on the basis of the entity that owns the college or institute. Government colleges, as the name suggests, are managed by the State Government or Central Government. Private colleges are managed and operated by private charitable and educational trusts and organizations. Government colleges are known to charge very low tuition fees. Private colleges, on the other hand, are known to charge relatively higher tuition fees. This is the main reason why students prefer Government colleges over self financing ones.
Architecture courses
Here are some of the popular architecture courses in South India – Diploma in Architectural Assistantship, B.Arch., M.Arch., PG Diploma programs, PG Certification programs and PhD programs. Looking from academic level’s point of view, these courses can be classified into the following types –

Architecture admission
In order to secure admission into reputed private institutes and all Government colleges, you must take part in merit based admission process. Relevant entrance tests are conducted to facilitate architecture admission process. These tests are conducted at State, National and College levels. A merit list is created on the basis of candidates’ performance in the entrance test. Seats are allotted to candidates on the basis of their merit list rank and position.
