Through Airmen recruitment, IAF is known to give training and jobs to 12th passed students, Diploma holders and Bachelor’s Degree holders. There’s a trade/group within the Airmen category, which even 10th passed students may apply for!   This article covers that job post and details associated with it! If you are looking for a stable Government job right after completing 10th, this job post could be of help to you.   Airmen play a key role in ensuring the smooth functioning of IAF. This category is made up of many trades/groups. They trades/groups are –

  • Group X (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and IT streams)
  • Group X (Education Instructor)
  • Group Y
  • Group Y (Medical Assistant Trade)
  • Group Y (Musician Trade)

  As I mentioned before, eligibility criteria associated with each trade is different. In cases of some trades, 10+2 candidates are eligible to apply. While for some other trades, only certain Degree holders are eligible to apply!

Nature of job

As a musician, you will become part of IAF Band. IAF trains musicians to play different musical instruments.

Age of the applicant should be between 17 to 25 years.  

Educational Qualifications required

Passed Matriculation /10 th class or equivalent with minimum pass marks from any Government recognised School/Boards and should be proficient in playing at least one of the following musical instruments: Trumpet / Bass / Violin / Saxophone / Clarinet / Euphonium / Jazz-Drum / Piccolo / Bass Trombone / Key Board / Guitar / Sarod / Viola / Cello / Contra Bass (String Bass).

Government jobs in India for 12th passed candidates

 

Medical standards

  • Weight should be in proportion to candidate’s height and age.
  • Minimum range of chest expansion: 5cm.
  • Candidate should have normal hearing i.e. able to hear forced whisper from a distance of 6 meters by each ear separately.
  • Candidate should have healthy gums, good set of teeth and minimum 14 dental points.
  • Candidate should have no medical or surgical deformity and should be free from all communicable diseases & skin ailments.

 

Visual standards

  • Visual Acuity: 6/36 each eye correctable to 6/9 each eye.
  • Maximum limits of Ref error: Not exceeding +3.50D including astigmatism.
  • Color vision: CP-III

 

Selection process

IAF recruits Musicians through two methods. They are –

  • Schedules Tests (STs): Advertisements are published in Employment News/ Rozgar Samachar inviting the application for Scheduled Testing. Eligible unmarried male Indian Citizens (including the citizens of Nepal) are to register their names in the Indian Air Force website airmenselection.gov.in and log in with their registered email id for filling up of online applications. Further, the printout of the online applications along with other testimonials are for be forwarded to the President. Central Airmen Selection Board, Post Box No. 11807, New Delhi – 110010. The Board sends admit cards to eligible and short listed candidates to appear in the Scheduled Tests.
  • Recruitment Rallies: Advertisements for Rallies are published with the details of eligibility conditions, selection programme and rally venue in popular local/regional newspapers circulated in the region/area of the rally. For rally recruitment, eligible candidates are to report to the rally venue with the requisite documents. These documents will be scrutinized and verified by the Testing team.

  The selection process consists of the following steps –

  1. Verification of eligibility.
  2. Written test: For Group Y (Musician) trades written test for English with a duration of 30 minutes would be conducted for those candidates who have successfully qualified in the proficiency test to play the musical instrument applied for.
  3. Adaptability Test 1 (AT-1): Candidates who clear written test must appear for this test.
  4. PFT (Physical Fitness Test): Candidates who clear AT-1 must appear for PFT. First comes 1.6 km run, which a candidate must complete in under 7 minutes. On doing that, he will be tested for 10 Push-ups, 10 Sit-ups and 20 squats to be completed within stipulated time to qualify in the PFT.
  5. Adaptability Test 2 (AT-2): Candidates who clear PFT have to undergo AT-2.
  6. Medical Examination: Candidates who clear AT-2 are subjected to medical examination.
  7. Publication of AISL (All India Select List): All India Select List (AISL) is published twice a year separately for Scheduled Tests and Recruitment Rallies. AISL for selection tests during the period from January to June will be published on 31 October same year and for the period from July to December will be published on 30 April next year. The same will be displayed at Airmen Selection Centres, IAF website airmenselection.gov.in and District Magistrates Office (for Recruitment Rallies only). Inclusion of name of candidates in the AISL depends upon performance and it does not guarantee automatic enrolment. Enrolment is strictly in order of merit in the AISL and subject to medical fitness, availability of vacancies, not exceeding the age as mentioned in the advertisement on date of enrolment and meeting other laid down eligibility criteria as and when called for enrolment. The validity of AISL will be 12 months from the date of display.
