Joining Indian Navy as an Officer is not a very easy task! But it is not an impossible task either! I’ve already written useful guides that explains how one may join Indian Navy as Officer after 12th Science, how to join Indian Navy as Officer after Engineering. This article is dedicated to female aspirants, who are passionate about joining Indian Navy. In this article, I will list different entry modes using which Indian women may join Navy! I will provide details such as- job post details, age limit, educational qualifications required, physical as well as medical standards required.
In case of female aspirants, the entry type permitted in the Indian Navy is the SSC (Short Service Commission) entry. In case of Branches like Education, Naval Architecture and Law, female Officers may be given Permanent Commission after they finish the duration of SSC period, depending upon number of vacancies, their performance and merit!
Broadly speaking, there are 3 Officer posts in Indian Navy for which female aspirants are eligible to apply for. They are-
- Executive Branch
- Engineering Branch
- Education Branch
In case of two of the above mentioned branches, there are many job posts within them. Now, let us take each branch and analyze the job posts within them in detail. We will also check out age limit, educational qualifications required, physical and medical standards required etc.
Executive Branch
1 SSC ATC
Age Limit
Between 19.5 to 25 years of age.
Educational Qualifications
10+2 Science stream schooling with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects is required. Also, BE/B Tech Degree in any Discipline with minimum 60% marks is also required.
Medical standards
Minimum height required is- 152 cm. Eyesight requirement details have been provided in the below chart-
2 SSC Observer
Age Limit
Between 19 to 24 years of age.
Educational Qualifications
10+2 Science stream schooling with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects is required. Also, BE/B Tech Degree in any Discipline with minimum 55% marks is also required.

3 SSC Law
Age Limit
Between 22 to 27 years of age.
Educational Qualifications
Law Degree with minimum 55% marks.

4 SSC Logistics
Age Limit
19.5 to 25 years of age.
Educational Qualifications
BE/B Tech (any Degree)/MBA (with first class)/B.Sc. IT/B.Sc./B.Com. with first class for joining the Logistics Cadre. BE/B Tech in Civil Engineering or B. Arch for joining Works department, M.Sc. Hotel Management/MBA Hotel Management/B.Sc./BA for joining Catering department.

SSC Education
Age Limit
Between 21 to 25 years of age.
Educational Qualifications
BE/B Tech or M Tech in branches like- Mechanical/Telecommunications/Instrumentation and Control/Electronics and Instrumentation/Electronics and Telecommunications/Electrical and Electronics/IT/Computer Science.
MCA graduates are also eligible to apply.
M.A. English and M.A. History graduates are also eligible to apply.
M.Sc. Physics with Maths in B.Sc./M.Sc. Maths with Physics in B.Sc./M.Sc. Analysis or Operational Research.
Medical Standards

Engineering Branch

Between 21 to 25 years of age.
Educational Qualifications
BE/B Tech Degree in Branches like- Mechanical/Civil/Metallurgical/Aeronautical/Naval Architecture/Aerospace Engineering with minimum 60% marks.

2 UES SSC Naval Architecture

Between 19 to 24 years of age.
Educational Qualifications
