How to join Indian Coast Guard as Yantrik

I’m back with another series related to Indian Coast Guard’s recruitment drive! In the previous series, I dealt with the Officer Entry posts and branches of the Indian Coast Guard. I described in detail about how one may join the Indian Coast Guard’s Law Branch, Technical Branch, Pilot/Navigator post, General Duty Branch etc. As mentioned, those were the Officer posts. In this series, I will be dealing with Sailor Entry. In case of this first article, I will describe in detail the Post named ‘Yantrik’ and various details about the recruitment drive associated with it. I will cover details like- details about the job post, age limit, educational and medical standards required, selection procedure etc.

Yantrik post: Basic details

Indian Coast Guard works well due to the collective effort put by the various branches present in it. The task of Yantriks is to deal with the maintenance and working of machinery used in the Indian Coast Guard vessels and aircraft. Only unmarried male candidates are eligible to apply for this post.

 

There are ranks within this post, like- Yantrik, Uttam Yantrik, Pradhan Yantrik, Sahayak Engineer, Uttam Sahayak Engineer and Pradhan Sahayak Engineer. One may rise through these ranks depending upon one’s performance.

 

Age Limit

Candidates should be within the age limit of 18-22 years. Relaxation in case of SC/ST candidates is- 5 years and in case of OBC candidates is- 3 years.

 

Educational Qualifications required

Since this post is all about dealing with sophisticated machinery, Diploma Degree in a select few Engineering branches is required, to be considered eligible! Candidates should be matriculation examination passed and must possess 3 years long Diploma Degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Aeronautical/Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. Minimum marks requirement is- 60% marks aggregate. 5% relaxation in marks is given to SC/ST candidates, National Level sportsperson and wards of Indian Coast Guard personnel deceased while in service.

 

Physical and Medical standards

Minimum height required is- 157 cm. Weight should be proportionate to height of the candidate. Minimum chest expansion required is- 5 cm. Eyesight requirement- 6/9 and 6/12 with glasses, 6/24 without glasses.

 

Apart from the above mentioned conditions, candidates should also be in good physical, mental and medical health. They shouldn’t have history of fits or Psychiatric ailment, varicose vein, cardiovascular disease etc.

 

Selection procedure: How to apply?

If you are sure that you satisfy all of the above mentioned eligibility criteria, you may apply online. Go to joinindiancoastguard.gov.in and apply online. While filling up the application form online, candidates will be asked to provide important basic details. Candidates will even be asked to select a selection centre from the available list of centres.

The call up of candidates is then made. Candidates are called up for written test to the selected centres based on the marks they scored in the Diploma program. The written examination consists of objective type questions.

 

Candidates who manage to clear the written exam are then called on to appear for the Physical Fitness Test and Initial Medical Examination. The physical test consists of 1.6 km (to be completed in 7 minutes) run, 20 squat ups and 10 push ups.

 

Candidates who clear the physical fitness test will be called on to appear for the Initial Medical Examination. Those who clear it are then subjected to a Final Enrollment Medical Examination. Successful candidates are then called up for training!
