The series- ‘Indian Coast Guard’s Sailor Entry Recruitment’ is coming to an end on Apnahangout! When it comes to the Sailor Entry, we have covered the Yantrik post as well as the Navik (General Duty) post in detail. In this article, we will check out the post of Navik (Domestic Branch). As usual, I will provide basic details about the job post, age limit, educational and physical standards required, eyesight and height requirements and selection procedure.
Navik (Domestic Branch) post: Basic details
Only Unmarried Indian male candidates are eligible to apply for this post. After getting selected, candidates may work as cooks and stewards in the Domestic Branch. Based on one’s performance, candidates may rise through ranks such as- Navik, Uttam Navik, Pradhan Navik, Adhikari, Uttam Adhikari and Pradhan Adhikari.
Age Limit
Candidates between 18-22 years of age are eligible to apply for this post. 5 years relaxation is provided for SC/ST candidates and 3 years relaxation is provided in case of OBC candidates.
Educational Qualifications
Candidates must have passed matriculation examination with minimum 50% marks from a recognized board.
Medical Standards
Minimum height requirement is 157 cm. Weight should be in proportion to height of the candidate. Eyesight requirements- 6/18 and 6/36. Chest expansion- minimum 5 cm.
Apart from the above standards, candidates should also have normal hearing ability, no history of mental illness, no physical disability, no presence of cardiovascular diseases, no presence of varicose vein.
Selection Process
In case of this post, candidates have to fill up the form and send it by normal post to the authorities. Eligible candidates will be selected and will be called up for further selection tests. This call up is made on the basis of higher studies that a candidate has been through.
Called up candidates will have to appear for Physical Fitness Test. They will have to finish tasks like- 1.6 km run (to be completed in 7 minutes), 20 squat ups and 10 push ups.
Candidates who clear the above mentioned PFT stage will have to appear for initial recruitment medical examination.

The final shortlisted candidates then have to appear for Final Medical Examination. Candidates declared unfit won’t be selected for the training. Successful candidates will be selected for training!
