Engineering is one of the most pursued professional course in India. Due to the increase in number of Engineering Colleges and seats, number of students go forward with this degree. But thanks to factors like recession and job saturation, Engineering graduates are finding it hard to land decent jobs. That is when a job in Indian Army as an Officer comes to rescue! In this article, I will explain in detail about the different ways in which Engineering graduates can join the Indian Army as Commissioned Officers. This article will cover details like- type of entry, educational qualification required, age criteria, marital status etc.
Ways for Engineering graduates to join Indian Army as Commissioned Officers-
#1 University Entry Scheme (UES)
This entry is meant for Engineering students who are in their pre final year of graduation. This entry helps students appear for the entrance examination while they are still in College. So, in case a student clears the entrance and SSB (Services Selection Board) Interview, he will be selected to train at IMA (Indian Military Academy) and inducted into the Indian Army!
Eligibility Criteria-
Age criteria is that the candidate should be between 19 and 25 years with reference to the first day of the month in which the training will begin at IMA. Educational qualification required is that the candidate must be pursuing Degree Engineering course (pre final year) from a recognized Institute. The candidate should be un married.
#2 Technical Graduate Course (TGC)
When it comes to TGC entry both Engineering Degree holders and final year students may appear! This entry is quite flexible in that way.
Eligibility Criteria-
The age criteria is that it should be between 20 and 27 years with reference to the first day of the month in which the training begins. Educational qualification- Engineering Degree/ final year Engineering student, from a recognized institute. Both married or unmarried candidates may apply. The training will be provided at IMA.
#3 Short Service Commission (SS) Technical Entry
This is a very popular entry among Engineering graduates. This entry offers them the freedom to choose the length of their stint with the Army. Under this entry, a candidate, if selected, has to serve as a Commissioned Officer for a period of 10 years (extendable up to 14 years). After this period, they have freedom to choose whether to opt out of Army or stay on.
