Selection process

Selection process may vary from one group or job post to another. The basic process consists of the following stages –

  1. Written examination
  2. Documentation
  3. Physical measurement
  4. PET (Physical Efficiency Test)
  5. Trade test
  6. Medical examination

Written examination forms the first stage of selection process. Candidates who pass this stage will be selected to undergo further evaluation tests. The written test consists of MCQs.

After passing the written test, a candidate must undergo documentation process. After documentation, a candidate has to undergo physical measurement process. This process is carried out to ensure whether a candidate satisfies the physical standards (set by the authorities) or not.

Physical measurement process is followed by PET. PET is a qualifying examination. It mainly consists of physical activities such as – 1 mile race, high jump and low jump. Tests involved in PET may vary from one job post to another!

Depending upon the job post, PET may be followed by Skill/Trade test. The main aim of trade test is to test a candidate’s skill-set/knowledge in relevant trade/domain. The last and final step is – medical examination. Medical examination determines whether a candidate is medically fit to serve in the BSF or not.
