B.Sc. Forestry: Basic course details

Normal B.Sc. programs are 3 years long. But B.Sc. Forestry program is 4 years long. It is an Undergraduate Degree program. The 4 year duration is divided into 8 semesters, each semester lasting 6 months.

The main aim of this program is to train students to become Forestry professionals. The tasks of forestry professional are- conserving forest and forest resources, conserving and protecting wildlife, manage forest resources, develop forest and forest resources etc. B.Sc. Forestry program trains students and instills skills in them, which will help them perform the above mentioned tasks. Also, the program has been designed to provide the students knowledge about latest technology used in the field of Forestry.

Eligibility Criteria

Students who have passed 12th Science stream board examinations (with Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects) from a recognized board are eligible to apply for this course. In case of some institutes, minimum marks criteria may exist (normally 40-50% marks in PCB subjects).

Scope, Job opportunities and Salary details

Ample job opportunities are available for B.Sc. Forestry graduates in the Forest Department of Indian Government. One may land the job of a forester or forest department officer in State Governments’ Forest Department. For this, one has to go through the selection process and examination though. In case of private sector jobs, some job posts available are- plantation and resort manager, forest product marketing, forest products purchasing manager, Research and Development sector etc. Starting salary is generally around 15k-25k per month. In case of Government job, it depends on the Pay Band (class and Grade of job post).

  13. I need to score good in Physics, Chemistry and Biology to get admission. But if I score bad in Mathematics, English and first language (other two subjects of best five) will I get the admission in agriculture university?
