How to join IAF as Officer after completing B.Com.

Last Updated on August 7, 2023 by Vishnu Nambiar

Joining IAF (Indian Air Force) is a dream that many Indian youngsters nurture! But very few manage to make it through and become an Officer in the IAF. Large number of students fail to make it, thanks to lack of right information. They simply aren’t aware of the modes of entry, educational qualifications required etc. This blog, with its awesome articles related to Indian Armed Forces, has been providing valuable information to aspirants. In this article, I’ll describe in detail about how B.Com. (Bachelor of Commerce) may join the IAF, as Commissioned Officers.

Before heading further, let me tell you one thing- B.Com. students are not eligible to become Flying Officers in the IAF. This is because of the fact that Flying Branch requires candidates to have gone through 10+2 Science stream schooling. And most B.Com. graduates don’t meet this educational requirement set by the authorities. However, they are eligible to apply for Ground Duty Branches! And the posts are that of Commissioned Officers!

    • Vasu, did you had Science stream (with PCM subjects) during 12th? If no, you are not eligible to join IAF Flying branch as an Officer. You may join the Ground duty branches as an Officer though. For that, you may make use of AFCAT examination.

    • Sudeep, if you had Maths and Physics as main subjects during 11th and 12th, you may apply for Flying Branch after getting an MBA (must not exceed the age limit though!). Otherwise you may join the Ground Duty Branches of IAF.
