In the 1980’s, Amitabh Bachchan was not only an actor, he was a superhero a la Superman, hiding his face using a mask, fighting crimes and kicking villains in their balls and thus keeping his superhero identity a secret! Hey, not in real life, but in a fictional world depicted in the comic series named Supremo. Yes, superstar Amitabh Bachchan was depicted as a costumed hero just like Batman, Superman spiderman etc.

The Supremo comic series starring Amitabh as the hero was published in the 1980’s. Amitabh was well aware of this comic because he himself gave the publishers, India Book House (IBH) the permission to do it. So, by the day, he is an actor, doing his job. But in his spare time, he dons funky shades to hide his face, wears skin hugging clothes (which is a ritual for superheroes) and goes out on his adventures, fighting crime. He is accompanied by Vijay and Anthony, two sidekicks. Actually, these characters were named after two of Amitabh’s famous on-screen avatars.

Our desi hero Supremo has no supernatural powers. He can be compared to good old Batman. His main traits are strength and intelligence. Supremo’s profile goes like this: He loves eating peanuts (me too!) and loves listening to music (again me too!). The comic was available in two languages- English and Hindi.

The publishing house has discontinued this series decades ago. Still, if you want to buy it, you can find it on e-bay and other such sources. Click here to find it on e-bay.

I couldn’t come up with any images for this comic due to copyright issues. You may do a google search typing ‘Supremo Comics’ and find the cover graphics of the comic. Better yet, just click on this link to check them out.
