Can you live without mobile phone for a day? Many of you will say no. Yes, mobile phone is a necessity now. Earlier, it was considered a luxury. Few people owned it in India. The mobile bills/tariffs were insanely expensive back then. I remember that an SMS costed around 5 rupees some 13-14 years ago! Now, we use mobile phones not only for calling, but also for accessing internet and paying bills also.
Many folks complain that they get huge mobile bills despite lots of effort. A good part of college students’ pocket money is spent on recharging their mobile phones. Here are some simple yet effective tips to reduce your mobile phone bills and recharge expenses:
1 CHOOSE YOUR PLAN WISELY
Times have changed now. Phone calls have become dirt cheap. You can take advantage of various plans that different service providers put forward. If you have relatives staying abroad, then choose a good ISD calling plan. If you are working in a different state and frequently call your family, choose an STD plan. Do some research regarding the plans and choose the one that suits your needs and saves you money.
2 PLAN BEFORE YOU CALL
Before you call your friend/parents/relatives, you should be well planned about the reason for the call. Many people call others, chit-chat and forget to tell the real reason for which they called in the first place!
3 LOCK STD/ISD
Many service providers give us the facility to lock STD/ISD calls. So even if your kids happen to play with your mobile, they won’t end up dialing STD/ISD calls.
4 AVOID MISSED CALLS
Many times it happens that we call back when we get a missed call from any number. But this is unnecessary. Only call back if you know the person. If the person really wants to talk to you, he will call back.
5 BE CAREFUL ABOUT SMSs
Many reality shows have this SMS voting system. But remember that the charges for such SMSs are higher than the normal charge. Many times, even if you have an active SMS plan, such messages will cost you money!
6 CALLERTUNE CHARGES
Many service providers give its users free caller tunes for a month or two. But after that period, these services will cost you money unless you deactivate such plans.
7 AFTER CALLING
After calling, always make sure that you cut the call. Many people just put the mobile back into their pockets without pressing the ‘end-call’ button. They think that the person on the other end will cut it. But what if the other person doesn’t hang up? He will keep on hearing our talks and we will be charged more money!
