Students ask me these questions- “Which is the best stream after 10th?” “What stream should I select after completing 10th?” “Which stream will help me build a good career?” “Which stream will have good scope in future?” etc. In this article, I will answer the above mentioned questions. I’ll also provide list of streams and courses that students may pursue after completing 10th standard.
First of all, let me tell you that there is no such thing as “Best stream”. Each stream has its own potential and advantages. For example, choosing Science stream will help you build a good career in sectors like- Engineering, Medicine, Research & Development etc. Commerce stream is a general platform. You may become a Businessman, Chartered Accountant or even Law professional after it. Similarly Arts stream also has excellent job scope associated with it.
In the end, it all depends on your passion and aptitude. For example, if you are a creative person, who is interested in performing arts. Then Bachelor of Performing Arts course will suit you best. For that, you should take Arts stream after 10th standard!
Thus, the first step should be finding your passion/area of interest. Based on that, selecting the appropriate stream will become much more easier task!
One must also give equal importance to aptitude. If you are not capable of acting or you don’t have much creativity, then the prospect of you selecting Bachelor of Performing Arts course doesn’t make much sense.
Many students just take up the stream/course that their friends take up, without even considering their personal interests. This is all due to peer pressure. It is like a group of sheep, the whole group follows a single sheep!
So, these are the courses, streams and jobs you can take up after passing 10th standard.
1 Commerce Stream
Commerce stream has subjects like economics, business studies, accountancy, maths, English, computer studies etc. After passing 12th commerce, students can go for B Com followed by M Com or they can also take up BBA and other courses. Commerce stream is like a general platform. From there, one may specialize in numerous disciplines and build good career. For example, after B Com, one may go for M Com or MBA or even LL.B.! After 12th Commerce, one may also go for job oriented courses like- CA training and Company Secretaryship program!
In short, Commerce stream will suit those, who are good with numbers, have an interest in the field of management etc. Here is a list of good courses to do after 12th Commerce. That list will help you know more about the career scope associated with Commerce stream!
2 Science Stream
The science stream has two groups in it. The A group (Maths, Physics and Chemistry are main subjects) and the B group (Biology, Physics and Chemistry are the main subjects). Besides the main subjects, there are other subjects like English, Computer etc.
Students have to select either A group or B. You may also select both groups and appear for both exams.
After passing 12th standard, ‘A group’ students can go for Engineering, B Sc, Diploma, BBA and other courses. ‘B group’ students can go for MBBS (FOR BECOMING A DOCTOR), B Sc, BAMS (AYURVEDA DOCTOR), BDS (DENTIST) and other courses. Here is a list of top 11 courses to do after 12th science. Hope it helps you out.
Science stream students are also eligible to select Commerce oriented professional courses after 12th. You may also check – Science (Biology) courses.
3 Arts Stream
Earlier, arts stream was considered to be meant for low scoring students of 10th standard exams. But now, with many new and innovative courses and scope, Arts stream is also good. Some traditional professional courses Arts stream students may do are- BA, BFA, BPA etc. Check this list of courses to do after 12th Arts. The list will give you better idea about Arts stream’s career scope.
After passing 10th standard, you can take up diploma in Engineering course. There are various branches of engineering like- mechanical, electrical, civil engineering etc. After completing diploma, you can complete B Tech (Lateral Entry) and later M Tech etc.
10th passed students may also go for job oriented Diploma courses other than the Diploma Engineering courses! Some such Diploma courses are-
- Diploma in Hotel Management
- Diploma in Event Management
- Diploma in Yoga Science
- Diploma in Dairy Technology
- Diploma in Interior Designing
- Diploma in Animation and Multimedia
- Diploma in Fire and Safety Technology
5 Technical courses
Apart from Diploma courses, there exists skill based training courses too, which 10th passed students may study. The best example I can give is the courses offered at ITIs (Industrial Training Institutes). There are various training schemes available, such as Apprenticeship Training and Craftsmen Training. 10th passed students, who want to land a job fast, may go for such job oriented technical courses.
Note: You alone should decide the course/stream you take after 10th standard. Consider factors like your interest, job opportunities after the course etc.
