After failing in 12th: NIOS and Diploma courses could be of help

Last Updated on July 31, 2023 by Vishnu Nambiar

Okay, let us come straight to the serious question- what to do after failing in 12th standard? Many students face this tough situation. Normally, they wait for the re-examination and apply for it, write the exam again and expect to pass in it. But there are other options as well, let me mention it in the article.

Success

12th Science students may pursue Diploma course

If a Science stream student fails in 12th standard examination, he/she may make use of the 10th standard marksheet and apply for Diploma course using it. After pursuing Diploma, one may finish it up and go for BE/B Tech too, depending on performance and marks.

Students may also go for Open Schooling option

Instead of sitting and wasting time, students may also make use of NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) and pursue school courses right from their home. The advantage of Open Schooling is that the timings are quite flexible.

One may do 12th standard studies from home, prepare for the exams and appear for it. Also, the result will help you apply for Professional Courses after passing the course.

At the same time, while pursuing 12th standard studies from NIOS, one may also go for ITI, Certificate as well as Diploma courses too, pursuing two or more courses at the same time.

This is a good option, for one can complete 12th standard schooling at one’s own flexible timings and at the same time, make use of time, pursue other useful courses and acquire some skills. Remember to pursue courses that’ll instill skills, which will help get jobs!

Similarly, Commerce stream students, who have failed in 12th, may pursue schooling course from NIOS. While pursuing this course from home, one may also enroll at institutes offering courses like Tally, Office Assistant course etc and acquire some useful skills!

  4. Hello sir, I’ve given cl 12th cbse exams this year and I know I’m gonna fail in 2 main subjects. My parents are supportive and they want me to re appear as they don’t have a problem with that. My concern is ,can i save my time by giving NIOS exam and after that, can i appear for medical exam? I mean Will there be any problems after nios or is it equivalent to cbse? are nios students eligible to appear for AIPMT(NEET) or other entrance examinations?

    • Ali, I think the regular re examination will be better. There are some concerns regarding the validity of NIOS. There are some people saying it is enough to secure medicine seat. Some others say that they were rejected. I think it is better to stay on the safe path. Since your parents are supportive, you must focus on studies and give the examination your best shot.

    • You may reappear for the exam and clear it completely. It will help you pursue Computer Engineering course. Otherwise pursue Diploma in Computer Engineering program.

    • Jaskaran, you may pursue Diploma after completing 12th. Better yet, you may go for B.E./B.Tech. program in Mechanical Engineering after completing 12th standard.

Can I Give physics and math from nios and then get admission in any government college by getting through cet? This year only? Also if I can give physics and math from nios when can I Give them like Which month? Also will the nios passing 12th certificate be a problem for admission in medical?

    • Not the same year Rashi, it will take some time (months). You’ll have to check it with the NIOS site and their academic program.
