IAF Airmen Selection Exam Pattern & Syllabus 2023

Each year, IAF conducts ST (Scheduled Tests) and Recruitment Rallies to fill up Airmen vacancies. In 2022 too, IAF will recruit candidates to fill various trades within Airman post!   Here, you will find everything you need to know about the recruitment process such as – selection process and exam pattern.

Types of IAF Airmen recruitment in 2022

In order to recruit Airmen candidates, IAF makes use of two methods –

• ST (Scheduled Test)
• Recruitment Rally

If you want to become an Airman, you will have to watch out for notifications/advertisement regarding any of the above mentioned methods! Here are more details about each selection method –   Schedules tests – Advertisements are published in Employment News/ Rozgar Samachar inviting the application for Scheduled Testing. Eligible unmarried male Indian Citizens (including the citizens of Nepal) are to register their names in the Indian Air Force website airmenselection.gov.in and log in with their registered email id for filling up of online applications. Further, the printout of the online applications along with other testimonials are for be forwarded to the President. Central Airmen Selection Board, Post Box No. 11807, New Delhi – 110010. The Board sends admit cards to eligible and short listed candidates to appear in the Scheduled Tests.   Recruitment rallies – Advertisements for Rallies are published with the details of eligibility conditions, selection program and rally venue in popular local/regional newspapers circulated in the region/area of the rally. For rally recruitment, eligible candidates are to report to the rally venue with the requisite documents. These documents will be scrutinized and verified by the Testing team.   Let us talk about the selection process now. Once you register for the ST or Open Rally, you must undergo the selection process.   The selection process consists of some basic steps. Selection Process

Here are the main steps involved in the selection process –

• Written test
• Adaptability Test 1 (AT-1)
• PFT (Physical Fitness Test)
• Adaptability Test 2 (AT-2)
• Medical Examination

Each step/test is like a qualifying examination. A candidate must quality each stage to ensure that he can move on to the next stage.   Document verification is also an important step involved in the selection process!

Exam Pattern and Syllabus

Here are more details about the individual tests –   Written Test: Written Test will be objective type and question paper will be bilingual (English & Hindi) except for English paper. Answers are to be annotated on OMR sheet. Detailed procedure shall be explained before conduct of the examination. Duration of the written test will be 45 minutes and will comprise of English as per 10+2 CBSE syllabus and Reasoning & General Awareness (RAGA). Candidates must qualify in each paper separately. Results of the written test will be declared on the same day.   Adaptability Test 1: All candidates who pass the Written Test will have to undertake Adaptability Test 1 which is to assess suitability of a candidate for employment in the IAF which involves deployment in varied geographic terrain, weather and operational conditions.   PFT: All candidates who pass Adaptability Test 1 are to undergo Physical Fitness Test (PFT) on the same or the next day. PFT consists of a 1.6 Km run to be completed within 7 minutes. Candidates will also have to complete 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups and 20 squats within the stipulated time to qualify in the Physical Fitness Test.   Adaptability Test 2: All candidates who pass PFT will have to undertake Adaptability Test 2 as per policy in vogue. Adaptability Test 2 is to select candidates who can adapt to the environment of Indian Air Force and are able to adjust to the military way of life.   Medical Examination: Candidates who qualify Adaptability Test 2 will be medically examined.

Publication of result

After evaluating the candidates, IAF published AISL. AISL stands for All India Select List. This merit list is displayed at relevant Air Force Stations and Airmen Selection Boards.
