How to become a Commercial Pilot after 12th Commerce

Last Updated on August 7, 2023 by Vishnu Nambiar

Are Commerce stream students eligible to join Flying School and undergo CPL (Commercial Pilot License) training? Technically, to enroll at a Flying School and undergo the training process, passing 10+2 Science stream Schooling is mandatory. Unfortunately, in case of Commerce stream students, this criteria of Science stream schooling is not satisfied at all!

Become Commercial Pilot!

So, how can a Commerce student pursue his/her dream of acquiring a CPL and becoming a Commercial Pilot? Fortunately, most Flying Schools also offer flexible ‘Schooling’ program for such aspirants, who hail from a ‘non-Science’ schooling background.

Under such a program, the Commerce stream student is asked to enroll by the Flight School to a ‘Distance Education’ course conducted by NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling). Under this Distance Correspondence Course, the student will be able to carry on 10+2 Science stream schooling. Such course is Recognized by the Government also! Thus, educational requirements of non science group students can be satisfied by NIOS.

The guidelines are usually provided by the Flight School regarding such course. But you may also take things into your own hands and enroll for NIOS course yourself too!

Once the course of 10+2 Science stream is completed, you may join Flying School and go for CPL training!

  2. Hi sir
I am a commerce graduate and 24 years old , I didn’t have physics or maths in my 12th grade. Now I am interested in enrolling myself in Indigo/Jet’s cadet program. What is the best way for a commerce student to study for maths and physics NIOS board? And does studying for these board exams also helps you prepare for the mcq entrances these airlines take for their respective cadet programmes?

    • Sarath, unfortunately Commerce stream candidates are not eligible to join IAF’s Flying Branch. You may join the ground duty branches though, after graduation. For that, you may make use of AFCAT examination.

    • No Vipul. 12th Science schooling with Mathematics subject is required to become a Commercial Pilot. You may make use of open schooling system and do Science stream schooling and then approach a Flying School.
