DRT Course Details

DRT stands for Diploma in Radiology Technology. This program is also known as Diploma in Radiological Technology. It is a diploma certificate program. In other words, it is a diploma paramedical course.

Candidates who have passed 12th Science with PCB subjects are eligible to pursue this course. The course is two years long.

Radiology technology, as the name suggests, deals with medical imaging technology, equipment and practice. Have you even been to a medical imaging center? At a medical imaging center, digital images of different parts of the human body are generated (using advanced equipment and technology). Examples of medical imaging techniques include – X-Ray, CT Scan, Sonography etc.

Let us consider an example – an orthopaedic surgeon relies on medical imaging to find out the level of damage a bone has undergone. Similarly, a physician may rely on X-Ray to check whether the patient is suffering from Tuberculosis.

In these cases, medical imaging helps the specialist take a look at the internal organs of the human body. This is where radiology and medical imaging comes handy! Medical imaging helps us to take a look at the internal organs of the body. Thus, it helps with diagnosis and treatment of the patient.

A medical imaging center/unit is handled by a qualified radiologist. Radiology technicians and radiological technologists are known to work under a qualified radiologist. DRT course will help you become a radiology technician.

After completing this course, you will be able to work at medical imaging labs/units (under a radiologist) and take care of tasks such as – patient preparation, operating relevant equipment, assisting the radiologist etc.

Minimum educational qualification required to pursue DRT course is – Passed 12th Science with Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects.

Admission process

Admission process may vary from one institute to another. Reputed institutes are known to conduct merit based admission process. When it comes to this (merit based admission) process, marks secured by a candidate in PCB subjects are taken into consideration. A merit list is formed on the basis of marks secured by applicants. Seats are allotted among eligible and deserving candidates on the basis of their performance in the merit list.

However, admission process may vary from one institute to another. For example – some private paramedical colleges are known to conduct direct and/or donation-based admission process.

Fees

Tuition fees depends upon factors such as – type of the college, scholarship status of the candidate, rating of the college etc. On an average, the tuition fees could be anywhere between 10-20K INR per year.

Career prospects
